All this to say, it sounds really transactional when writers get together, but it's also deeply personal--I have immense gratitude for everyone who has helped and oh my god, querying/getting a first book published is really so fucking hard. Sending everyone good vibes. 💜 3.

Changing my advice to emerging writers from "be persistent" to "be a thoughtful human when interacting with other writers." Yes, the business is hard, but it's other writers who offered loans to pay my rent, lent me houses to finish edits, wrote letters, hired me for jobs. 1.
