@gladstone_scott @CaterinoLab We tried to entice @carabidos to do a North American revision of Rhadine, but I’ll admit it’s a pretty daunting task. Boy do the staphs need work but then again when is that not the case, haha!

Just a few of my favorite invert memories on the grand adventures in Texas. New species discovered, those long lost were found. From the smallest of flea beetles to the blind creatures underground.

I greatly appreciate the wonderful partners and colleagues I had the privilege to work with in Texas as we sought to understand and conserve the many unique species across such a massive and diverse state.

I am excited to share that I have started a new chapter in my insect conservation career back in the PNW as the WDFW Westside Butterfly Recovery Lead.

Never make assumptions @USFWS, especially when it comes to invertebrate extinctions…

@vmshirey @xercessociety I just did the same. There are five times more invertebrate petitions than those for mammals!

@kmagnacca Unfortunately the sites are remote so I was hoping to avoid bagging. Some seed heads are already being harvested for production estimates. There are several types of pupae from the few I have sorted, a mix of Tephritid and some type of lep. The photo is from the botanist.

Thoughts on rearing Leps from seed heads? This appears to be a borer moth but all the pupal casings have been empty. The seed heads are from a federally listed plant and researchers are looking at seed production and viability. Any small lab emergence chamber designs suggestions?

@CinTyLeeEarth Do you know any locations in Texas where lava tubes have formed? Would they have formed too long ago to still be accessible?

Two lava flows. Lower one likely flowed into a lake. Then a brief hiatus with sediment deposition. Then a subaerial flow. Nice bake zone at the interface. West Texas.

Spent an awesome few days with @xercessociety staff in west Texas back in August searching for rare fireflies. We had some great finds and in some cases got more than we bargained for. Epic moth abundance for a dry summer. m.youtube.com/watch?v=7pAAy7…

The stragglers are still working south. Caught this male warming up among the post oaks this morning. Still a few nectar resources hanging on after some much needed rain.
