One of the most common questions we get at Monumental is "how do I get into a robotics as a software engineer"? Inspired by our time at Palantir, we decided to open up a new role for Forward Deployed Robotics Engineers. The typical Silicon Valley startup advice to become an effective engineer is “spend more time with your users”. Our version of this is “go spend time with robots".

Exceptionally proud of this major milestone: we built the first water retaining quay wall with robots in the world. (The sand between the buildings is going to be dug out and become a canal in the coming weeks.) I'm particularly proud that @BuildMonumental is able to contribute to Amsterdam's heritage and continue this centuries old tradition with cutting-edge technology, especially given that the cost of building and maintaining these retaining walls has been exploding in recent years. @jonburkeUK Really recommend going to see Het Schip (and many of the surrounding buildings). There are some beautiful social housing projects there from the early 20th century, and some interesting history.

The commonplace decorative brickwork of Amsterdam is an exceptionally cheap form of non-exclusionary, non-rivalrous public luxury.

I like the idea of getting electronics repaired instead of buying new stuff. But, in practice, I have never had a good repair experience. Is it just me?
