@gruidae_james They certainly weren't Trotskyists but Greene and Fluss seem to ignore how impressed Adorno and Horkheimer were with Trotsky as an historical figure, and generally mistrusted Stalin. They read The Revolution Betrayed with great interest. Trotsky even showed up in Adorno's dreams.

Finally, Costanzaization brings us a review of Rachel Kushner’s Creation Lake and reprises its major themes for the reader: “There is much to unpack in Creation Lake’s 400 pages. Just as Bruno looks to the past for clues about the future, Creation Lake contemplates the ashes of the milieu that produced The Call and The Coming Insurrection, leaving us to question whether we can indeed leave this world behind.”

Anyone in NYC want to reread—or read, if you haven't before—the "Odysseus or Myth and Enlightenment" excursus from Adorno and Horkheimer's Dialectic of Enlightenment, in anticipation of Christopher Nolan's (probably terrible) movie adaptation of the Odyssey?
