⛽ Fuel Tax Review: Will the Government Cut the 86-Cent Levy? Faced with the threat of hyperinflation, the Government has signalled it is looking into reviewing the taxes and levies that have pushed Zimbabwean fuel to the highest levels in the region. With Petrol hitting US$2.19 and Diesel at US$2.05, the "cost-push" effect is already visible: * Bread Shock: A standard loaf has spiked to US$1.10 at most retailers, up from US$0.90 last month. * Transport Paralysis: There are fewer kombis on the road as operators struggle to balance high fuel costs against resistance to fare hikes. * Tax Breakdown: Currently, the government collects approximately 86 cents per litre in taxes, including Carbon Tax and the Strategic Reserve Levy. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube admitted these levies are under scrutiny to cushion consumers. However, if these reviews don't happen before the next ZERA cycle in early April, we risk a recession as basic goods become unaffordable. Will a tax cut be enough to stop the price hikes, or has the damage already been done? 🧐 📲 Join our WhatsApp Channel to stay updated: whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va… #ZimEconomy #FuelPrices #InflationWatch #Zimpricecheck #Zimbabwe

We owe some people an apology 😅 When people in Harare said they already had the Galaxy S26 Ultra before launch, we assumed the phones were fake Turns out they weren’t Here’s the story (and how Samsung called us out)

🤖 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸’𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝘅 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰 We just spent an hour arguing with Starlink’s support AI, and it was a masterclass in why "relatable" names don't matter if the logic is broken. It seems the "AI gatekeeper" has a few bugs when it comes to Zimbabwean legislation and basic arithmetic. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: * 🧮 𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀: The support bot insisted that 𝟵𝟭.𝟱𝟳 + 𝟭𝟰.𝟭𝟵 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝟭𝟭𝟲.𝟯𝟰 (it actually equals 𝟭𝟬𝟱.𝟳𝟲). When an AI can't do addition, it’s hard to trust it with your billing. * 📜 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟳% 𝗩𝗔𝗧 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: The AI claimed VAT is 𝟮𝟳%, which is completely wrong. As of 𝟭 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, Zimbabwe's standard VAT rate increased from 15% to 𝟭𝟱.𝟱%. * 🏛️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝘅" 𝗠𝗶𝘅-𝘂𝗽: There is a new 𝟭𝟱% 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝘅 (𝗗𝗦𝗪𝗧) in Zimbabwe, but this is usually collected by your bank at the point of payment, not added to the Starlink invoice as "VAT." * 🥊 𝗔𝗴𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: Instead of helping, the AI challenged us to "provide legislation" to prove it was wrong. This confrontational style is a nightmare for the average user who might just pay the incorrect amount to avoid a disconnection. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 of 𝗔𝗜 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 This is our first billing issue in six months, and while Starlink’s tech is great, their customer service model is failing the "human test." Naming a bot doesn't make it friendly if it’s programmed to be stubborn and mathematically challenged. If you are seeing "puzzling amounts" on your March invoice, don't let the AI bully you. Check your totals manually—and remember, the legal VAT rate in Zimbabwe is 𝟭𝟱.𝟱%, not 27%. Has anyone else noticed weird calculations on their Starlink statements this month? Let us know! 👇 📲 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀𝗔𝗽𝗽 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱: 𝗵𝘁𝘁𝗽𝘀://𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽.𝗰𝗼𝗺/𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹/𝟬𝟬𝟮𝟵𝗩𝗮𝟳𝗧𝘃𝗴𝗻𝗙𝗦𝗔𝘁𝗖𝟳𝗾𝗟𝟲𝗩𝗶𝟯𝘅 #𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗭𝗶𝗺 #𝗭𝗶𝗺𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 #𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗘𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝘀 #𝗭𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 #𝗔𝗜𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 #𝗭𝗶𝗺𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆

Arsenal FC poised for “Visit Zimbabwe” tourism partnership. Zimbabwe’s tourism sector could be set for a major global boost following indications that English Premier League giants Arsenal FC are considering a five-year renewable tourism and investment partnership with the Government of Zimbabwe. The proposed collaboration would roll out a “Visit Zimbabwe” campaign, leveraging Arsenal’s vast international following to position Zimbabwe as a leading tourism and investment destination, in line with a growing global trend that uses sport as a platform for destination branding, similar to DR Congo’s arrangement with FC Barcelona. Arsenal’s interest builds on the proven success of its Visit Rwanda partnership launched in 2018, which significantly raised Rwanda’s global visibility and helped drive a 47% increase in tourist arrivals, generating an estimated US$650 million in tourism receipts from a US$40.4 million investment. Zimbabwe is projected to invest about US$42.9 million under a similar model, with expectations of comparable or even stronger returns given the sector’s current upward trajectory. Tourism remains one of Zimbabwe’s key economic pillars. Provisional figures for January to September 2025 show the sector generated close to US$1 billion, a 10% increase from the same period in 2024. A “Visit Zimbabwe” partnership with Arsenal FC would further strengthen sector performance, enhance international visibility, attract foreign investment, and contribute meaningfully to sustained national economic growth. @Arsenal @BarbaraRwodzi @KMutisi @KandishayaTaura @TendaiChirau @marapira_farai @edmnangagwa @ArsenalWFC

Varun Zimbabwe will now manufacture PepsiCo’s Cheetos locally. Currently, Varun distributes imported snack brands such as Lay’s, Doritos and Simba. In June 2024, Varun announced a US$7 million investment to produce PepsiCo snacks in Zimbabwe. The company says local Cheetos production will increase domestic maize sourcing. ℹ️ On plans to bring Carlsberg into Zim, Varun plans to start distributing the beer in April as a pilot, before commissioning a bottling line in 2027.

For the last 2 months I have been unable to make calls or recieve calls reliably on @econetzimbabwe. I have an eSIM on iPhone. Anyone else have the same issue?? I can’t even call 111 🤣 I went to Econet Gutu and reported. Econet did the usual and sent a message saying resolved. NOTHING was fixed. Monopolies are terrible for customers.

The neglect at NRZ MEs (Mechanical Eng. Workshops) is shocking. No one has bothered repairing the roof in yet another rainy season and the rain water is flooding whatever is left of the workshop.
