This photo of #PrincessDiana in tears (📷: @bornfirstkindly) is pretty powerful-this was taken at an appearance at the Sydney Opera House during the Royal Tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1983. Charles seems oblivious. Diana was 21 years old and just had Prince William 9 months earlier. This tour was grueling by any standards-4 weeks, 30,000 miles with up to 8 appearances a day. The crowds were beyond massive-I cannot even BEGIN to imagine the pressure and stress for a 21 year old, inexperienced, naive young woman. This was when it became clear that the crowds preferred Diana over Charles and that was a huge hit to Charles’ already fragile ego. Diana was upset by the disproportionate attention she was receiving and couldnt convince her husband she did not want it. I think people forget just how young Diana was. 19 when she got engaged and 20 when she married. Can you imagine if that happened today? #RoyalFamily
