Really sorry to hear of the passing of Larry Hickmott, the founder of velouk.net. He was essential to the reporting of grass root cycle sport. We were delighted to support him for 5 years and pass sincere sympathy, to his wife Lynne, family and mother in Australia.

@100Climbs He was brushed off and brushed off ...just dreadful. He will be missed from races up and down the country. He was so pivotal in documenting the domestic scene. So very sad: a larger than life character from our relatively "small world" gone.

So sad to hear of the passing of Larry Hickmott. As I’m not in Facebook I had no idea how poorly he was and reading his posts what a dire almost futile time he’d had in hospital. He was to say the least an institution of the British domestic scene. RIP Larry.

@100Climbs Aah...when I was a young Geog teacher in a boy's school i taught them that a major disad of canal tsport was drowned horses- when all the exam papers had this...I nearly got sacked! I ultimately taught 32 yrs there...but didn't know re leggit. Every day=schoolday!

@royds25 It goes back to the canal age. When a barge got to a tight tunnel the horses pulling it had to go over the top and the crew laid on their backs and used their legs to push the barge through, they legged it.
