anyone know of small (~$500 - $2k) grants that fund interdisciplinary projects in art & field ecology / ornithology? I have two projects in mind: an exhibit on bird-window strikes at UMASS and a short film on shorebird migration in Alaska. this is a long-billed dowitcher 4 fun

We got one! Update from the LEYE: one bird from the AK Peninsula is seeming like it'll winter in the Pacific. Others are heading across the Gulf of MX to Central America and Caribbean islands.

Oh boy, it might be happening. Lesser Yellowlegs we put transmitters on in King Salmon, AK are departing the breeding ground - will they continue down different flyways?? Stay tuned...

Thus I transition into my AOS oral presentation plug - I'll be talking Dowitchers and the Gulf of Alaska on Wednesday @ 4:30!

Compared to the population we're tracking from the interior, the Peninsula breeding birds are showing more variation in their initial departure (timing and destination). Seems that the Gulf offers some options...could be wind access?

@rozybathrick How flexible is the start date? I definitely want to put an application in, but I don’t graduate until the 20th!

field sites will be varied, and our team will move around southwest AK quite a bit - so strong applicants will also have good organizational and planning skills to help with the many logistics of field prep

applicant will work alongside myself (1st year PhD student in the Senner Lab at UMass) and one UMass undergraduate student. we will be nest searching for Yellowlegs spp. and deploying tracking transmitters on breeding adults.

bird handling experience not required - more important is a sense of humor about long days of bog-tromping, contribution to a healthy and safe working/living environment, and an interest in the natural history of mosquitoes
