@ryancbarnett @jeremiahg @rootevidence It turns out access to public exploit code is almost completely uncorrelated with losses. Weird fact but true.

Most organizations don't know which vulnerabilities will actually cost them money. They're managing thousands, patching by severity scores, and still getting breached.
At RSA, our co-founder @RSnake sat down with Yahoo Finance's Tech Edge to talk about what tech-enabled underwriting actually looks like and why clean, financial-risk-driven data changes things entirely.
If you're in security, risk, or underwriting, this one's worth 10 minutes.

I’m trying to collect stories about bad things that happen to companies where the executives lose control of or almost lose control of their companies.
- Contract issues (poorly negotiated)
- Tech issues (hacking or outages or…)
- Customer shifts (lost revenue)
- Hostile takeover
- Deaths/departures of key employees
- Etc…
I want to hear your anecdotes, if you have seen or heard of these types of scenarios.

@beehiiv Offline editing? It would be extremely helpful when I am in weak cell phone coverage areas.

99% of vulnerabilities won’t hurt you

Unpopular cybersecurity opinions that would get you in this position?
English

@ryancbarnett @InsiderPhD @0xTib3rius @OWASPWHID @rootevidence @jeremiahg 100% yes. While prevalence is a useful metric it is mostly useful to start asking the question: why is a hugely prevalent vulnerability never found/used by the adversary? You’ll learn a lot about how the attacker mentality and tooling by following that logical flow.
English

@InsiderPhD @0xTib3rius My opinion is that the Top 10 is too heavily weighted on vuln prevalence and not factoring in the question:
“Are threat actors actually exploiting that in the real world?”

"We went from approximately 30 CWEs in 2017, to almost 400 CWEs in 2021, to 589 CWEs in this edition to analyze in the dataset."
Yeah...that's why 2017 was the last actually useful one.
There are 944 total CWEs. A "Top 10" that covers 62% of CWEs is a bit silly.

I still don't like it. 🤓
