The hereditary stewards of the Tomb of Ssunna II were pleased to find that my wife had a Buganda name, but mine was Acholi. After some consideration, they adopted me into the Mmamba (Lungfish) clan, and gave me the name Mubiru to use in the kingdom of Buganda in #uganda . So now I am known as Professor Okot broadly in Uganda, and Professor Mubiru in Buganda. Perhaps by the end of my #fulbright I’ll have many names from the other kingdoms as well. #allwaysreal #alwaystroy

Heading out to Wamala Tombs to record some stories today — but an explanation on why ethical concerns might mean you won’t see everything. #allwaysreal #alwaystroy #fulbright #Uganda

My hot take — player death is often bad storytelling. Death of a character resets the player out of consequences. Instead, good DMs create further consequences that the players have to play through — you survive but now you owe a life debt to a former enemy. You’ve lost a limb that can only be healed by going on a difficult (but fun!) quest. You now have an irrational fear that will be triggered by the DM every time it’s inconvenient for the party but good for the story, etc.
Instead of rolling up a new character, let players suffer consequences but in the process develop complicated and rich story arcs to play through.

Should player death be common in Dungeons & Dragons?

A rollicking discussion ensues after my #fulbright talk on Global Medievalism today. When the full video goes up it will probably get me in trouble. #allwaysreal #alwaystroy Can you guess which popular literary theory I attacked?

Keynote at @Makerere: Dr. Richard Scott Nokes @rsnokes noted that while AI & scholars like Prof. Kajubi help connect different worlds of knowledge, technology alone cannot teach. He stressed that education policy must remain firmly human-centred.@USEmbassyUganda @MakCEES

A really excellent contribution to discussions of AI in education. #HigherEd #AI

The 6th Professor Senteza Kajubi annual lecture this afternoon was graced by Amb. William Popp, Ambassador of the USA in Uganda. The panelists made very informative presentations on the subject of Education Policy and Student Success. The event was a befitting celebration of Senteza Kajubi’s remarkable legacy as a great educationist.

Should there always be a giant version of me emphasizing whatever I say? Or next time should I demand an even bigger version? #allwaysreal #alwaystroy #fulbright #unfluencing
