Ser vi till SAOL och SAOB är front ett substantiv som beskriver en främsta stridslinje, främsta sidan av truppavdelning vid vanlig uppställning för strid, geografisk linje dr fientliga styrkor möts och strider.  Strid genomsyrar betydelsen och Sverige är inte i krig, vi har inte ens en höjd beredskap och hur gärna än ÖB vill se ett krig med Ryssland, är det inget hans politiska chefer beslutat om...men ÖB kanske planerar en krigskupp?

@rtorkar Is this multiple packages across different languages or a specification curve? I was doing the specification curve under two previous posts, but this one is narrowly about “across package variation” for identical specifications of the same estimator.

Variation from packages is a previously undocumented source of variation coming from researcher selection into packages and languages, as opposed to a poor understanding of the metrics, p-hacking, or covariate selection as all of this use 16 different covariate specifications.

The number of cancer deaths worldwide has more than doubled since the 1980s. Does that mean we're losing the fight against cancer? Not necessarily, because it depends on how you measure it. On this chart, you can see three ways to look at the same data. The red line shows the total number of cancer deaths. It has increased by about 120%, but this measure doesn't account for the fact that the world's population has also grown enormously over this period. Another approach is to look at the death rate: the number of cancer deaths divided by the total population. That's the brown line, called the crude cancer death rate. It has increased too, but much less — around 20%. But there's still a problem: the world's population has been getting older. Cancer is mostly a disease of old age, so even per capita, we'd expect more cancer deaths simply because there are more older people than before. That's where the method of “age standardization” comes in. It's a way of asking: what would the cancer death rate look like if the age structure of the population hadn't changed? The blue line shows this age-standardized rate: it's fallen by about 25%. At any given age, people are now less likely to die of cancer than they were in the 1980s. The same underlying data gives us three different pictures. The absolute number of deaths is up; the crude rate is up slightly; the age-standardized rate is down. None of these are inaccurate, but they answer different questions. Age standardization is one of the most important statistical methods for making sense of health data. Without it, population aging can hide progress or mask problems.

The UN’s Nordic Battalion, made up primarily of Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian troops, entered Bosnia in 1993 during one of the most volatile phases of the war. Peacekeepers were expected to remain neutral and operate under strict rules of engagement, but the Nordic troops quickly realized that these limitations often prevented them from protecting civilians from ethnic cleansing and militia attacks. Faced with roadblocks, ambushes, and armed groups who ignored UN authority, the battalion began bending or outright ignoring orders from higher command. They sometimes “lost” radio contact to avoid being told to stand down, and they responded more aggressively than most UN units when civilians were threatened. Their unorthodox approach earned them a reputation as the most assertive and at times “trigger‑happy” peacekeepers in the region, but it also made them one of the few units that local civilians trusted. The Nordic Battalion’s willingness to take risks allowed them to escort humanitarian convoys, defend safe zones, and deter attacks that other UN forces were unable or unwilling to confront. Though controversial within UN leadership, their actions are remembered by many Bosnians as a rare example of peacekeepers who prioritized human lives over bureaucratic constraints. #archaeohistories

Väldigt högt tonläge från Mikael Damberg med tanke på att han är den enda finansministern i modern tid som inte fick igenom den enda budget han la på riksdagens bord. Frågan är vad Damberg är så upprörd över? Regeringen och Socialdemokraterna lånar i praktiken lika mycket till sina budgetar. Det som skiljer är att S presenterar reformer som de saknar ca 50 miljarder i finansiering för. De två stora utgifterna som Sverige lånar till är försvarsuppbyggnaden och stödet till Ukraina, men på båda de punkterna är riksdagen helt överens. Så vad är det han är emot? Att Sverige har en av EUs lägsta statsskulder? Att Sverige är ett av endast tio länder i världen som har tripple A-rating? Att den svenska kronan är en av de valutor som gått starkast mot dollarn? Att svensk produktivitet är bland EUs högsta? Eller att tillväxten kommer ligga i EU-toppen i år samtidigt som vi är det starkaste innovationslandet? Eller är det att en vanlig barnfamilj kommer ha 5 000 kr mer i månaden än när han själv var finansminister samtidigt som skattetrycket är det lägsta sedan 70-talet? Vad är det egentligen @mikaeldamberg gnäller över?

Det här med narrativ. Vad är det? Svenska medier uppvisar en stilstudie i detta just nu. Ett franskt hangarfartyg, med tillhörande enheter, besöker Malmö. Den militära förmåga som den här gruppen kan projicera är oerhörd. En del av Frankrikes strategiska förmåga. Sverige ska köpa fregatter. En affär på sisådär 40 miljarder. Klart Frankrike vill visa upp sig här i det sammanhanget. Finns många intressanta aspekter att belysa. Det narrativ som media väljer att förmedla är främst att fartyget är atomdrivet.
