This *really* sucks. Whenever I visited friends in RPV, I'd think "OK, you REALLY made it." The homes here are stunning, the Wayfarer's Chapel is unreal. Now it appears doomed. They ain't fixing this, and it will only expand.

Let me explain California to you. Everyone shares pictures like this - look how beautiful, worth the taxes! Look closer. Nobody on the beach. You know why? Because the beach sucks. Pretty in a picture. But the reality is that it's windy, wavy, cold, dark, rocky and just shit. And that's up and down the coast - and it's most of the pictures you see shared. Pretty landscape... But treacherous conditions. And that's basically California in a nutshell. Good for a quick visit because it's pretty - but not actually better than Florida.

@theficouple I have 270k in a 401k at 46. i am freelance also and never know how much Ill be able to contribute each month/year. I also have a pension with almost 250k in it. Assuming my industry doesnt die and the pension isnt drained by my retirement age, how am I lookin?

Spoke with a friend who’s 41 with ~$145,000 in their 401k. They feel way behind and currently invest ~$550/mo for retirement. They estimate they will end up with ~$300,000 by age 65. But the math says they'll retire with ~$1.7 million. Compound interest is magic.

BREAKING: The FBI has warned police departments in California that Iran could launch a retaliatory attack at the US West Coast using drones, per ABC News. Details include: 1. The alert said that the FBI "recently acquired information" of a potential "surprise attack" 2. Iran "aspired" to do this using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast 3. Targets are "unspecified" but expected to be in California 4. A spokeswoman for the FBI office in LA declined to comment Oil prices are now up over +6% today.

Planting berry bushes is arguably one of the highest gardening ROIs and easiest to maintain. I currently have 10+ blackberries, 10 blueberry bushes, and 5 raspberries in my backyard and I still want to expand it further. Last year I picked >10lbs of blackberries alone. Didn’t weigh the blueberries and raspberries but probably 15lbs total (all organic). And the yields will increase every year. On top of all of that, all you basically have to do is water if it gets super hot and fertilize once a month. And the biggest benefit is it’s a great activity to do with your kids to get them outside and away from screens. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

My kids just ate $40 dollars worth of these berries...as a snack. It's so ridiculously expensive to put proper nutrition in them. No idea how people manage it, and if they don't, what the long term health consequences are.
