Post Multisig architectures exist - all apps that custodian user assets must evolve to the newer technologies designed to prevent these human errors. Developers of apps that run on the L1 blockchains, this is not 2022, there are solutions already to avoid these human social engineered admin consent mishaps. MPC-based (Multi-Party Computation / threshold signature) alternatives to traditional multisig that are explicitly designed to prevent the types of exploits seen in the recent Drift ($200–285M, April 2026) and Bybit ($1.4B, Feb 2025) social engineered admin hacks. Quick recap of the multisig exploits Both attacks were not smart-contract bugs in the protocols themselves but operational compromises of the multisig governance/custody layer: Drift (Solana): Attackers tricked or compromised 2-of-5 Security Council multisig signers (via social engineering, malware, or device compromise). They used durable nonces for delayed/pre-signed malicious admin transfers weeks later, seizing protocol control and draining funds Bybit (Ethereum): Signers were deceived into “blind signing” a malicious transaction (via UI manipulation/supply-chain compromise). This flipped a delegatecall parameter, letting attackers replace the multisig wallet logic and drain cold storage. Classic multisig weaknesses exposed here: human signers can be phished/tricked, devices can be compromised, and approvals can be gamed (pre-signing, contract upgrades, blind signing). Start to explore the new technologies in R&D. Move away from bridged multisig admin architectures. Bottom line: Modern examples of the post-multisig era exist already. They replace “multiple humans signing” with cryptographic threshold guarantees that are far harder to socially engineer or delay-exploit. If you’re building or securing a protocol/treasury, moving to MPC (or at least hybrid MPC + multisig) is one of the clearest lessons from these incidents Examples IKA (on Solana and SUI) → A decentralized 2PC-MPC (two-party computation inside MPC) threshold signature network. It’s explicitly “zero-trust”: the network can’t generate signatures without the owner’s cryptographic input. This directly blocks the “tricked signers approve bad tx” vector seen in both Drift and Bybit. It also powers secure programmatic control from Sui/Solana smart contracts (great for protocols). @ikadotxyz Hashi on SUI → Built for native BTC custody + DeFi on Sui. BTC stays on the Bitcoin network but is locked into an MPC wallet controlled via threshold cryptography + Sui contracts. Institutions love it because it’s trust-minimized, has on-chain insurance options, and avoids wrapped-BTC risks. It combines MPC with formal verification and guardian models sui . io / hashi There are many other MPC / threshold-signature solutions doing the same thing (Fireblocks, Dfns, Zengo, parts of BitGo, etc.). The industry has been shifting from pure multisig toward MPC precisely because of hacks like Bybit and Drift. MPC generally wins for institutions because: No single point of failure (even if some nodes/signers are compromised). Built-in policy engines, transaction simulation, and whitelisting. Better UX/security for large-scale custody or protocol treasuries. Time to move away from this legacy architecture and remove human error for user custodied assets. No excuses. Start to investigate, R&D and test. MOVE OFF MULTISIG treasuries and bridges to MPC solutions now.
