I don't go to AA meetings unless someone asks me to go. Years ago I helped a friend who relapsed in recovery and fell into homelessness in the DTES. We finally got her housing (took a while) and I'll never forget what she said to me: "I have 99 problems and who would have thought getting housing would solve 90 of them, and now I can work on the other 9”. Last week she reached out to me and told me she's taking her one year of sobriety at an AA meeting on Saturday and would love for me to give her the medallion in front of her kids and family. 🥺 I was very moved when she said, “You never gave up on me". Honestly I don't give up on people because many people didn't give up on me and I try to pay that forward ⏩ everyday. I wouldn’t miss her meeting for the world. A reminder that recovery is possible if we just give people time and a chance. #wedorecover
