@peladodelatv @mickvanwely Nonsense. This was before the semi final against Bayern, not against Klinsmann’s Stuttgart. See Commodore advertising in the background, they were Bayern’s sponsor at the time. Check the advertising hoardings here (after 2.00 min), they’re different: youtu.be/ArgQy3CUmaw?is…

Jürgen Klinsmann: “Había 70.000 personas, nosotros estábamos calentando seriamente. Mientras sonaba ‘Live Is Life’, Maradona empezó a hacer malabares con el balón. Dejamos de calentar, porque no había nada más que pudiéramos hacer aparte de mirarlo.” MAGIA!

@lilyraynyc @filiwiese @athenseo Surely Google has a Project Zero internally, aiming to send no traffic to sites. They figured out gaps in their AI knowledge graph, then asked creators to create “non-commodity” content to fill those gaps so in a year’s time their gaps are filled and Project Zero is complete.

If you read between the lines - Google is getting more critical of our content and what we publish. Google can quickly identify commodity content. AI can generate this content easily. Google doesn’t need your website to create/scale this content. @filiwiese @athenseo

@niclasico You’re linking the attendance of a match played yeaterday to the financials of 10 years ago? Wow. That’s a different level of stupidity.

@Millar_Colin @footballespana_ Sums up why Johan Cruyff is the most influential person in football of all time. Pele and Maradona were great players, but Cruyff didn’t just do it as a player but as a manager also turned a decent club into a world class club, influencing the likes of Guardiola, Enrique, etc.

In 1984, Barça had just 1 more league title than both Atlético Madrid and Athletic Club Bilbao. In the 20th century, the three clubs were comparatively successful. Barça now have 20 more titles than Athletic Club, and 17 more than Atlético.
Alvaro Romeo@Alvaro_Romeo

19/38 leagues won for Barça since Cruyff took over in the 88/89 season. The other 19 leagues went to Depor (1), Valencia (2), Atlético (3) and Real Madrid (13). Cruyff's arrival marks an astonishing turn of a page in the league's history. Before him, Barça had won just 10 leagues

@sgevans Yes all of that and the US also a single market with 348m people (390m if you include Canada) while Europe is fractured. English people aren’t bothered about the Bundesliga, and Germans haven’t got a great interest in the Premier League.

These rankings and valuations for MLS shouldn't be a big shock given the progress of valuations over the past few years. MLS benefits from several factors that European clubs cannot access - 1. They are adjacent to the big American sports leagues and that does impact value calculations. 2. The risk factor of relegation isn't present. 3. Soccer as a whole is growing in the US and Canada. 4. Sponsorship and commercial revenue has grown significantly for MLS clubs in recent years. 5. The people who respond "But yeah, MLS club don't make a profit?" should take a look at the balance sheets of most European clubs. MLS has in-built cost controls that are out of reach for most European clubs.
Sportico@Sportico

Europe dominates the top of the valuations table with all 15 slots, but MLS dominates the bottom 70% of the list with a league-high 18 entries, led by Inter Miami at No. 16 with a valuation of $1.45 billion. Nine leagues overall landed teams in the top 50, including five from Serie A and three each from LaLiga and Bundesliga. Full valuations: sportico.com/valuations/tea…

@JeroenKapteijns Volledig eens, Jeroen.

In o.a.

Some interesting TV viewership figures filtering through from the first three #F1 races of 2026, showing marked audience growth over the 2025 editions. - Australia up over 23%. - China up over 30%. - Japan up circa 20%. Race attendances also up: - Australia up by almost 4%. - China by almost 4.5%. - Japan by over 18%. TV audiences measured across more than the 10 top markets, combined across the races and qualifying. Obviously, race attendance figures are less representative as ticket sales will be off the back of 2025, but TV audiences appear to like what they're seeing...

@thomasmaheronf1 Didn’t F1 Live TV rights move to some new broadcasters in some big markets this year? E.g. Apple TV in the US.

@ghostsarerealx @CFC_Russ @terryflewers @Lana_Florea 😂 See the original post. A Man Utd fan conveniently selecting a few seasons of Ferguson’s period at Man Utd to make it look like he hardly spent any money. Now that’s purposely misleading and lacking context…

Sir Alex Ferguson achieved similar dominance from 1992 to 2001, including the first-ever double-double and the historic treble, all while operating as only the 11th highest spender in the Premier League. This was also during a period when Serie A and La Liga were financially dominant in Europe. Give him today’s Premier League resources and it doesn’t just become dominance, it becomes complete control of European football.

@FredHend1255 @InsiderEng @NFAPResearch The US government is blocking ASML (a Dutch company) from selling its highly advanced chipmachines to China. That doesn’t even have anything to do with war. So why can’t companies be stopped selling stuff to kill civilians?

@InsiderEng @NFAPResearch Not quite sure that its legal to forbid companies from selling their products to Russia when the US is not at war. Europe has been buying RUSSIAN oil still to this day, so banning private companies from selling is truly Hypocritical ! Nice try, but not sure that's a legal option

I’m never sure if it’s just me getting older (quite possibly is) but it does feel as though football has lost a huge amount of the spontaneity and beauty which made it so joyful for me as a kid. Maybe that just happens to everyone eventually?
