I’m a deep believer that if politics is the only thing someone does, they should never run for office. I’ve said this for years. I got bullied into running after over a decade of community work. And I still struggle! I can’t imagine being in this without that solid foundation and anchor.

Mike Simmons and Hoan Hyunn didn’t raise a million from a network of folks based on polling denial. And again, if her ties were *that deep* at least break double digits. Leave some infrastructure behind. Literally anything. I also find this carpetbagging thing to be flimsy in a district that looks like a deformed Little Dipper constellation. Again, we all face moments that demand we listen to our communities. What we do in those moments, and how, matters more than anything else. Once folks enter congressional races there’s local, national, and international considerations. If folks want only the local, fine. Focus on the city, county, and state level.

And if someone who lives five minutes from her district, I can stay with confidence that even if Bushra had dropped out and endorsed Kat, most of her voters likely would not have gone towards Kat and would’ve gone towards a candidate like Mike Simmons, or Hoan Hyunn. I understand community leaders may be angry at her, but the people who don’t live here don’t understand the dynamics that were at play in a 15 person race.

There are downstream impacts of her decisions and behavior in this race that influenced more than just voters. Either way, my focus right now is the blatant lying. I’m glad that poll video got put up because it’s a perfect encapsulation of the past few months. To be clear, is it fair that congressional candidates don’t have the same residencey requirements as local candidates? No. But these races have national and international implications. Too many people have loved speaking about Palestine and Palestinians but when the moment came to cede that platform and elect another Palestinian to Congress, folks chose not to. Either Palestine is your litmus test or it isn’t. This was an opportunity to elect another Palestinian to Congress. It was squandered. Whatever that future is, I and a large portion of leaders I know, will not be a part of it.

Ruwa, respectfully, Bushra still has deep ties to the community and will still have a strong political career if she chooses. Idk what happened behind the scenes but I know Bushra personally and would have still voted for her if I lived in her district. And if Bushra had dropped out I wouldn’t necessarily have voted for Kat either.

@BumphBean The people working on his team is an indicator that party leadership at the highest level greenlit his run even though he’s the weakest candidate in a general.

@ruwaromman Not sure the party has forgiven him, anyone can run in any party and the party cannot legally stop him running as a D. But imo, he definitely should have run as an Ind he as he did not earn a seat at the D table… esp as we have open primaries

This is why I find it deeply inappropriate for the party to forgive Geoff Duncan and to validate him. It's not up to us to forgive him on behalf of the countless victims he created through his legislative legacy.

Today, I found out our favorite pie shop is permanently closed. My husband and I have been going here since we graduated college! But Trump's madness continues to destroy so many families' livelihoods.

Time after time we see legislation that benefit corporations but rarely do we pass legislation that helps those who need it most. Worse yet, the abysmal services we do provide are inadequate, rely on clunky systems, and leave too many behind. Instead of fixing them, we continue to add more hurdles. What is the point of the power of government if we do not use it to help others and make our world better?

The cost of vegetables jumped 49% last month as inflation hit hard and companies raised prices.

Oftentimes being in the minority party means we mostly stop bad bills. Today, I am ecstatic for this win that provides real financial relief for so many. Also, this is why we need public transportation. Georgians deserve options during times like this.
