@amyactonoh Looking forward to seeing your proposal to cut the ohio portion of the gasoline tax which currently sits at 38.5 cents per gallon. Are there any other taxes you are proposing to cut to make things more affordable?

Here’s what we see while on the road today. Ohioans all across the state right now are having to decide whether they can afford to fill up their tank, get groceries, and pay their rent. These gas prices are piling onto an already unaffordable cost of living. People need relief.

@jlpoober So your school year is 1600 hours when the typical school year is 1000 to 1200 hours. You understand why people think that's sus right?

I wrote a post about working 60 hours in one week. The comments were something. Let me address a few things. "Other jobs work long hours too." Yes. I know. I never said otherwise. My point was simple: I earned my time off. That's it. If your job also overworks you without overtime pay, I'm genuinely sorry. That's also wrong. But it doesn't make what I described less true. "You're salaried. No overtime exists." True. Also: a 185-day contract paid over 24 checks isn't a summer salary. It's a school-year salary paid slowly. I'm not being compensated for July. I'm being paid in July for work I did in October. "You chose to work those extra hours." Sure. And if I hadn't, no lessons would be planned, nothing would be graded, and 30 kids would walk into an unprepared classroom on Monday morning. The work doesn't disappear because the clock does. "You hate your job." I don't. I love my students. That has nothing to do with whether the math adds up. The original post wasn't a complaint. It was arithmetic. If the arithmetic bothers you, I'd suggest the problem isn't the math.
Jen@jlpoober

Everyone loves to remind teachers about summer. Fine. Let's do the math. This week I worked nearly 60 hours. 6:30 arrival. Unpaid lunch with kids in my room. Covered PE — I teach Spanish. Graded vocab tests Friday night. Graded a children's book project on Saturday. Turned one into a movie and posted it for the class. Five hours of lesson planning today. The standard work week is 40 hours. The extra 20? Unpaid. Some weeks, the grading is lighter. Some weeks it's worse. This is not the worst week I've had. But yes. I get summers off.

@hoboken_gary @MikeJtheoldguy @_sn_n They were both conservative. Lincoln was for small limited government, Booth was pro slavery/anti church. Liberalism/progressivism didn't take hold until post industrialization and became an identity of the democratic party with FDR. The parties never switched.

@MikeJtheoldguy @_sn_n Do you think Republicans always been conservatives? Do you think Democrats always been liberals? For his time, was Lincoln a conservative or a liberal? Which was Booth? Pretty clear, indeed.

@jlpoober How many hours in class? I feel you are not counting your hours correctly. Where I live the school day is 6.5 hours which includes lunch. That's 32.5 hours for the week + "unpaid early arrival" of 2.5 hours + "unpaid after school" of 3.75 hours = 38.75 hours. 5 hrs of LP is sus.

@FordJohnathan5 @SpotitlsuJordan No, none of those would lead to a "kill" of the president if they were not stopped, however others might die. Obama wasn't at the Whitehouse when the gunman indiscriminately fired at the Whitehouse. The President wasn't at the DNC. Forming a plan would not kill someone.

An assassination attempt is a failed or unsuccessful effort to murder a prominent person—such as a political leader, head of state, or celebrity—usually for ideological, political, or malicious reasons. It involves a deliberate, sudden, or secret action to kill, which ultimately fails to result in the victim's death. Read that slowly.

BREAKINGNEWS Republicans are trying to state President Obama or Biden never had assassination attempts. President Biden had 3 and Obama had up to 8 assassination attempts. Here they are. . 2008 Denver Plot: Three men were arrested for plotting to kill then-candidate Obama with a high-powered rifle during the Democratic National Convention. 2008 Tennessee Plot: Two white supremacists planned to kill Obama during his 2008 campaign. 2009 Istanbul Plot: A man was arrested with forged press credentials as part of a plot to kill Obama with a knife. 2011 White House Shooting: Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez fired shots at the White House in an attempt to kill President Obama, resulting in a 25-year prison sentence. 2011-2012 FEAR Plot: Members of a domestic terrorist group formed within the U.S. Army were arrested for conspiring to kill the president. 2013 Ricin Letters: Letters containing the deadly toxin ricin were mailed to President Obama. 2013 "Death Ray" Plot: White supremacists plotted to kill President Obama with a homemade radiation gun. 2018 Pipe Bomb: A pipe bomb was mailed to Obama and intercepted by the Secret Service President Biden. 2020 Campaign Plot: In October 2020, before he took office, federal officials investigated a man, Alexander Hillel Treisman, who had plotted to kill Joe Biden and had traveled to within four miles of his Delaware home. 2023 Armed Threat: In August 2023, a Utah man suspected of threatening President Biden was shot and killed by FBI agents while they were serving a warrant. 2024 Travel Plot: In early 2026, it was reported that an Alabama man was accused of traveling to Atlanta with the intent to kill President Biden when he was in town for a debate in 2024.  President Obama had far more attempts of assassinations on his life then Trump. 🚨

Ah this one again. To my dear rationalist friends who are so confused as to why anyone would press the blue button: I don't want anyone's blood on my hands. "But if everyone just presses red then everyone lives" yeah but that's also true for blue, plus no complicity in murder.
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@maybemacc @nathanrizzolo @billybinion Texas didn't vote 5 years ago to ban gerrymandering based on its unfairness and enshrine it in their state constitution, so they didn't need to vote this time to undue that fairness in the name of fairness.

I'm not a fan of gerrymandering. But I'm still waiting for a convincing explanation for why it’s a “threat to democracy” when Democrats do it and mysteriously fine when Republicans do. The extremely blatant double standard is a bit much.

@EdKrassen Not withstanding republican hypocrisy, I think "peak" hypocrisy would be voting to ban gerrymandering 5 years ago and enshrined it in your constitution because it is so evil only to vote 5 years later to make a 1 time exception.

Republicans screaming and crying hard at Virginia’s voter referendum on redistricting are peak hypocrisy. Trump himself demanded mid-decade redraws in Texas (and pushed other states as well) to snag 5+ extra GOP seats, all done via backroom legislative votes with ZERO public referendum votes. Democrats let voters decide in VA. You cheered when it was your power grab. Now it’s unfair? Spare us. Cope!

@Deviknyte @PopularLiberal States also have constitutions. I have no issue with the voters in VA voting to change their constitution to allow gerrymandering, but they just voted 5 years ago to ban gerrymandering because it's evil. Not sure how you argue the Senate and electoral college are gerrymandered.

@ryall_aaron @PopularLiberal SCOTUS has time and time again confirmed that gerrymandering is 100% okay cuz nothing in the Constitution or federal law strictly prohibits it. Unless it's based on a protected class. Also, the Senate & electoral college are "naturally" gerrymandered institutions.

LFG VA!!!! Just voted YES in Virginia. 🗳️ On my way out, a Republican holding a "Vote No" sign tried to lecture me. I looked at him and said: "Nothing says entitlement like hypocrisy." Texas politicians don't even let their people vote on this—their constitution says politicians can decide FOR you. No sticker. No voice. No choice. Wouldn't we ALL be curious what Texans would actually say if they got the chance?
