Do what you’ve always done, get what you’ve always gotten.
It’s well past time to try something different in swimming. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel here. Nearly every major sport ends its season with a bracket-style tournament.
Can someone please test swimming’s version of this? Start with 8 or 12 teams. Run head-to-head dual meets over 3 days. Single elimination. One winner.

We’re moving way too slowly when it comes to “righting the ship” that is College Swimming. The ship is sinking. We should’ve acted 25 years ago, but today is the best we’ve got now. Rosters and being slashed. Programs are being cut. Budgets are being reduced. Coaching staffs are shrinking. We need to start modernizing, quickly, if we want to retain any sliver of what we’ve become used to over the last few decades. If not, we’ll quickly see the effects of our complacency trickle into every part of the sport at the collegiate level. Streaming will get worse. Budgets will continue to shrink. Programs will continue to be cut. As we move into this new world of college athletics, we’ll be forced into becoming even more reactive as a sport. That makes what we CAN still do, proactively, all the more valuable. Fans are the lifeblood of any sport, and the bottom line is that we aren’t giving them a consistently consumable product, in person or online right now. We need to build that product, or at least start trying. I’m more worried than ever for this sport’s future at the collegiate level, and that worry comes from the heart of a fan whose endurance for hoping for change is running out.

I want to share an update that I won’t be competing this summer. Instead I’ll be able to spend more quality time with Bridget and Eevi and dive into career interests beyond swimming.
I’ve joined the Growth Equity team @NorwestVP focusing on sports investment opportunities. And I’m proud of the impact we’re making at Goldfish Swim School - St Johns.
While I’m taking a break from competition, I still have unfinished goals in the sport and will keep the door open for what’s next. Can’t wait to cheer on Team USA this summer!

When are we going to take a risk on professional swimming? The college swim model has some great concepts, and ISL was an awesome experience for the athletes. Feels like there’s a big opportunity with the US Olympics to try and make pro swimming more fun and engaging.

This was an incredible NCAAs for men’s swimming (and women’s the week before). NCAA swimming is the most engaging format we have in the sport
