My first lead-author paper is on arxiv today! 🤠 By measuring the O and Fe abundances of star-forming galaxies at z≈3.5, we constrain the stellar + gas-phase mass-metallicity relationships and find our galaxies have ubiquitously supersolar O/Fe ratios! arxiv.org/abs/2405.00774

New paper on the arXiv today - investigating the UV continuum SEDs of galaxy candidates at z > 8. Our main new finding is that at z > 10 the UV continuum looks uniformly `dust-free' . arxiv.org/abs/2311.06209

New paper Day! arxiv.org/abs/2306.03916 We've used VANDELS photometry+spectra to estimate fesc(Lya), confirming a (>10sig) EW(Lya)-fesc(Lya) correlation at z~4-5. From ISM line measurements in composite spectra, we then find fesc(LyC) ~ 0.15 fesc(Lya). Go read for all the details!

Really exciting to see so many programmes targeting early massive quiescent galaxies in JWST Cycle 2! We've been awarded 3 days of NIRSpec time to further my Cycle 1 programme, as well as following up and extending the PRIMER and VANDELS surveys! stsci.edu/jwst/science-e…

There's (almost) nothing better on this earth than polishing a fancy matplotlib figure while listening to nice music and having a good (Belgian) beer or cappuccino. Can't share the current one yet, so here are some past ones that I like, just because. (arxiv links in alt-text.)

Our luminosity function paper has been updated using new NIRCam zero-points! We re-reduced the images using the new calibrations and made further custom corrections. We find that this does not change the overall conclusions of the paper.

Tell me you don’t understand science while telling me you don’t understand science. Not Cornell’s, Nottingham’s. Not a challenge to Big Bang cosmology. “Panic” is followed by “at the disc” oh, did the joke sail over the head?

Update on the unravelling of Big Bang theory. Cornell University's analysis of the initial initial images from James Webb. Its headline is "Panic!"... arxiv.org/abs/2207.09428

@jps_astro Here is the SCUBA-2 beam size plotted on the JWST imaging. Anyone want to place bets on the (possible, 2.6 sigma) submm source?

A sneak preview of tomorrow's arXiv. There are WAY more quiescent galaxies at z > 3 than we thought!

🚨 My new paper is out today! We search for z>8 galaxies in the 3 deep JWST fields and in UVISTA DR5 to determine the UV luminosity function up to z=15. We find 39 galaxies in the JWST fields with excitingly a potential candidate z=16.7. arxiv.org/abs/2207.12356 1/6
