However, the explosion caused a small fire in the middle stall which self extinguished but caused $4600 to the cubicle. Fernando appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to charges including criminal damage, possessing items used to destroy or damage and drug charges. Prosecutor Alex Turner told the court Fernando was captured on CCTV attending the day prior to “scope out” the event, labelling it a “targeted attack” based on her protest ideology which is Pro Hamas. Police raided Fernando’s home at 1am on September 13, discovering 28 undetonated homemade incendiary devices and an “abundance of literature” relating to radical Islam. The weapons and defence expo was the subject of significant protest, as protest groups linked it to the war in Gaza and thousands picketed outside the event.
