Very ominous. Rice production - on which a billion people depend - is increasingly endangered as the world heats up at 5000 times the rate at which the staple crop can evolve. livescience.com/planet-earth/g…

Give A Shit About Nature

Spraying one dandelion with Roundup can kill over 100 bees. The flower doesn't die instantly. Bees will keep visiting it for days, taking the poison back to their nests and hives. Never spray dandelions in spring and summer. They're one of the first major food sources for emerging pollinators. Let them bloom or remove them by hand.

@greekcitytimes I wish it had been cast like Apocalypto (2006) and starred mostly unknown, indigenous actors. A story like Homer's Odyssey requires faces who embody Bronze Age Greece, not Hollywood A-listers who distract from the story.

Social media is exhausting, and generally consists of people tribally raging against a clickbait headline without reading or understanding its content.

“Vegans are so extreme” I’d argue that eating baby animals, forcibly impregnating cows, grinding up male baby chicks alive, slitting the throats + electrocuting animals is more extreme, but okay.

This color means that she was boiled alive. Her blood was still flowing. It took 39 seconds for her to die like this. Imagine those agonizing 39 seconds. 💔 To the Meat Industry, her misery is simply the cost of doing business. 😡

@BenGoldsmith Roughly 4-5 people are killed by cattle each year in the UK, whereas there are no regularly recorded direct human fatalities from wild boar attacks (although 1 man was killed in a 2015 car crash on the M4 involving a wild boar).

They’re called wild boar, a native British species. All the language used by the Scottish government around this social, curious, vital species is geared towards whipping up fear and loathing- with a view to gaining social licence for their eradication. Disgraceful

Established populations of feral pigs are primarily found around Dumfries and Galloway, Easter Ross and the Great Glen, between Fort William and Inverness. If you spot a feral pig, keep your distance and do not feed them. Report sightings: irecord.org.uk/enter-casual-r…

The RSPB are right, there is more to nature than Beavers and sometimes political rhetoric does demonise nature as the enemy of ‘progress’. But the fact is nature in our country is massively in decline, we’ve lost 96% of wildflower meadows for example in maybe the last 50 years. The chief culprit of this is not house building (the built environment is maybe 15% of our land area) - it’s farming, driven itself by our food choice. Farming has taken 75% of our land area now and that’s land taken straight from nature, hence the decline in flowers, insects, birds, mammals and so on. Beavers are not the magic answer to this, though we (ecotalk) just introduced the first beavers in East Sussex in 400 years and the local reaction has been one of intense excitement, we can see the magic in these creatures. The actual magic answer is to change what we eat - at the extreme end if we all (in Britain) only ate plants we could give 75% of our farmland back to nature. That’s half our entire land area. Even small reductions in the growing of crops to feed animals to feed ourselves will create a big impact on wildlife habitat. A recent study found that if we stopped growing crops for animals and switched to crops for humans we could feed 16 million more people with the same land - that’s how madly inefficient animal farming is. Diet is the magic answer to our wildlife crisis - and into the bargain we’ll tackle the climate crisis and the human health crisis too. thetimes.com/uk/environment…

More than 100 whales died today in Sandavágur. Motorboats drove the mammals into a designated shallow bay, where they stranded and killed in the most gruesome way. Pilot whales and dolphins are killed with a spear (a tool with a double-edged blade). Their throats are then cut; the animals can no longer defend themselves and bleed to death slowly. There is no limit to the number of whales and dolphins killed each year. Whale and dolphin hunting takes place year-round and is justified by tradition. But originally, wooden rowing boats and rocks were used to drive the whales to shore, where they were killed in the shallows with spears. That was when whale meat was an essential food source. However, today the Faroese fishermen use jet-skis and motorboats, and it's more of a family event in which even the youngest children participate. Footages by Palli Ásbjørnsn Justesen

The tragedy unfolding here is an example of the billions of sentient beings we kill every single day. 💔 It is heartbreaking to know this is completely unnecessary. It isn’t even healthy. It is extremely cruel and devastating for all life. #StopTheKillings #LiveVegan don’t destroy lives 🙏
