Cotton country near Dalby, QLD 🌾 Grower Mark Valler runs 550 acres under crop and fitted a full set of RYAN three-coil gauge wheels to his eight-row John Deere MaxEmerge 1700. He’s planting cotton into heavy black soil with good clay content, irrigated from ring tanks fed by the Condamine River. Last season ran a touch late while they waited on chook manure, so sowing kicked off in late November. Even so, the setup handled it. Mark planted dry at roughly a quarter inch, on one-metre spacings, travelling 8 to 9 km/h. His take? The coils crumble through clods better than hard wheels, hold a more even depth, and reduce bounce across the bar.
