Today marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of my father, William G. Armstrong, or Bill Sr. as he was known.
There are four things I learned when he died that have never changed. First, until you lose a parent, no one can truly explain what that feels like. Second, my dad lived to 79 years old and had the chance to see my children, and after hearing so many stories of people losing their fathers at a young age, I remain deeply grateful for the time we had with him. Third, people often say it gets better over time. In my experience, that is not true. It does not get better, it gets even tougher over time. Lastly, I take solace in knowing that someday, by God’s forgiveness and grace, I will see him again. With each passing day, I know I am closer to that moment.
God bless my dad. Long live WA3.
