@ClearThinker66 Exactly that is my point , as he said this visa simply was an open visa so you can come and find a job , he says everyone wanted to come ! Obviously some have no idea about the UK , it is somewhere you go to make money.

@sabaone How old was he? When I was travelling in India in my early 20s, I knew v well that I had to compromise & fit into the culture there in many diff ways - not difficult to figure that out. The idea that people come here, don’t try to assimilate & fit in and just take is abhorrent.

Was talking to someone yesterday who has just arrived from India on one of those mass visas issued by the previous government. They seem to come with total incomprehension about UK, it is sold as a place of making money with no info on their obligation/ responses 1/2

@ClearThinker66 2/2 here expect from the incomers . He said 70,000 such visas were issued and how much the local travel agents were making by giving false hopes, as if the incomes had no obligation to be anything but to make as much money as possible , some notions were astonishing

@MadelaineLucyH @DAaronovitch My best friend is a devout Christian , her father was German and mother came from west of England. We have been friends since 1976. My son in law comes from a Catholic family and my daughter in law is a Jew . My life is so enriched with all these influences

My best friend is Muslim, and she has been fasting. I’m not a Muslim, and I don’t. We joke about it. She’s going to a white CoE funeral, and calls me to ask what the norms are and what to wear and say. This summer, I’ll be going to a family wedding with her and asking the same. Because that’s integration. That’s how you build a society that works. We don’t all have to be the same. We just need to have policies that allow for proper mixing and insight.
