Ok, so not quite the same as best song ever (sometimes songs grow on you or take time to develop etc), but songs that within about ten seconds of the first listen you instantly knew it was one of the greats and the feeling just kept escalating like the Vince McMahon meme

in this period i was obsessed with animal collective and also with finding weird lo fi obscurities via music blogs. i used to be sort of embarrassed by this period but now i know i was right and animal collective were great, if also extremely annoying sometimes

thinking about it, i don’t think you can have a worst song ever. if a song is unimaginative one it’ll still be pleasant enough to listen to. if it’s abrasive or discordant it’ll likely be interesting or have some catharsis to it. if it’s annoying it’s probably catchy and crafted

@Josherick3 yes i think this is a good criteria. by that metric i am all about naming songs like living on a prayer and eye of the tiger, where they serve as kind of empty signifiers. but i actually can’t think of many songs that are just bad songs

@sabo_borke I think my only criteria is that it’s both something I find annoying and also ubiquitous enough that I’ll have found myself in situations where I’m meant to be making a public show of enjoying it
