When I first saw the letter, I contacted at least 3 different people working in the refinery to get more details. What I gathered was that there was no formal sacking letter to any worker individually. It was just that re-organizational announcement and unavailability of staff bus which made many not to go to work yesterday. I supported Dangote against NUPENG when he purchased the CNG-Trucks but I am with the staff if truly they are sacked for their choice to join union. I waited to have the full picture before lending my voice so I can do it from informed angle. And I am aware that Dangote Refinery pays the lowest compensation in all Nigerian functional refineries. Aradel Refinery, Edo Refinery, Waltersmith Refinery, Portharcourt Refinery and even Warri and Kaduna Refineries under construction pay better than Dangote Refinery which has more capacity and profitability advantage that all of them combined. We are waiting for the full details.

Only a very small number of staff were affected’ — but reports say nearly 90% of Nigerian workers in that unit got sacked right after joining PENGASSAN. The math isn’t mathing. 🚨 If workers can’t unionize without losing their jobs, then calling this a reorganization looks more like union-busting than safety.
