NYG: Lagos' Ezenwa Cecelia grabs three medals In Weightlifting The Lagos State rising star Ezenwa Chinanza, a student of Command Day Secondary School, Oshodi, has won three medals in weightlifting event in the ongoing National Youth Games at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba,Delta State. She picked the first two gold medals for Lagos in clean and jerk. Cecelia competed in Group A Class 45 among her foes from Bayelsa,Edo,Adamawa, Osun,Abia Rivers and Cross River states to grab a bronze medal in snatch lifting (53). Cecelia did not allowed her attempt in snatch to hold her down as she landed two gold medals in clean and jerk (70) bringing the total to 123. A student of Command Day Secondary School, Oshodi said she just put her mind in the competition and ensure that something good comes out of it . Ezenwa further stated that her love for weightlifting is incomparable while thanking the Lagos State Government for giving her the platform to showcase her talent. “WE MUST WORK AS A TEAM" COMMISSIONER FOR YOUTH APPEALS TO STAFF The Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende has implored the staff to work with him as a team to achieve the mandate of the Ministry, part of which is to give succour to the vulnerable. Ogunlende gave the charge during his first meeting at the ministry's conference room with the management and staff, maintaining that the task of developing and empowering the youths in Lagos State is enormous and can only be accomplished by the collective effort of all members of staff. He said, "I need the help of everyone to be able to support Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in actualising the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda as it concerns this Ministry. The addition of ‘Development’ to ‘Youth’ places more responsibility on us. Therefore, all hands must be on deck to achieve the Ministry's set goals and objectives". According to him, some things that he would take into cognisance in discharging his duties would include freedom of speech, commitment to due process and an open door policy. In her remark, the Permanent Secretary, Pharm (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu assured the Honourable Commissioner of the full support of the staff. Speaking on the purpose of the tour, Ososanya stated that it is part of the steps being taken to chart a roadmap for the State’s participation in AfCFTA as it cannot afford to be left behind. LASG ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC DIVERSION AT IYANA IPAJA In continuation of the Iyana Ipaja Bus Terminal Project, the Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion at the Alagba ramp inwards Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway from Thursday, 24th August, 2023 for a duration of 18 weeks. The alternative routes that would be available for Motorists during the construction period are as follows: I. Motorists inbound Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway from the Iyana ipaja bridge will be diverted to Alagba intersection to link the slip road on the left side of the Alagba roundabout to access Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. II: Heavy vehicles from Egbeda/Alagutan inbound Agege or Abule-Egba will be diverted to the Lagos-bound slip road from Ecobank Roundabout to make a U-turn at Iyana Dopemu to continue their journeys. As a follow up to our decision to offer free antenatal services and free birth deliveries for women at the State’s General Hospitals to help cushion the effect of the current economic situation, I paid an unscheduled visit to the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital this evening, for an on the spot assessment on how effective the medical palliative care is being implemented Healthcare is very critical, and we must do everything to ensure it is available at the best level for everyone. I also made an unscheduled visit to the General Hospital, Odan to do on-the-spot assessment of the level of facilities at the hospital and the medical quarters, with a view to determining the level of intervention needed As part of our THEMES + agenda, we have made major strides across different levels of healthcare in Lagos, with major interventions still planned to support continued improvement.
