All the pressure is on the first prompt. Every word or suggestion feels heavier. Very hard to do creative work that way.

Feeling this even more with Fable. It wants to run very fast in whichever direction you hint it should go.
Seems like curiosity is being designed out. The better the model at getting shit done, the worse it is at thinking with you.

Opus 4.8 is a very strange model. Clearly Anthropic tried to improve honesty, which is commendable. However, the model's curiosity (already worse in 4.7) degraded further. Result is a judgmental personality + sycophancy + sooo much hedging. Basically the opposite of Opus 3.

We need tools that protect creative flow. AI doesn't need to be creative. It needs to clear the room so you can be.

In the studio, you might have to walk across a hallway to find a tape. Online, that 'hallway' is littered with a million distractions from apps and websites. A million reasons to lose your chain of thought and, just like that, lose the idea.

We keep asking whether AI can be creative.
Wrong question.
We should be asking whether it can remove the stuff that gets in the way of creativity. Brian Eno figured this out with a cassette tape in 1995.
