We've grown 3x since April, crossed X M in ARR, and are hiring more folks to join our small lean team The only requirement for us is you are AI native, can spend more than $20k a month in tokens, and can figure things out in an extremely fast paced environment We don't have a PM, we don't have issues, tickets, etc., we don't have a CRM. We operate on Slack and we operate with super high context Engineering: you have experience building recommendation systems, bidding platforms Sales: you have experience selling into enterprises while balancing super short sales cycles Support: you have experience doing support with explicit SLAs and response time thresholds You will have meaningful equity ownership, and we will work together to scale Lapis from X M ARR to XX M ARR

@JoshPurtell Don’t know about the Aztecs but in the Incas they very much had state capacity and legitimacy up until the civil war. To manage a 2200 mile empire in that time does take huge state capacity

@saibuilds They had a civil war and their king got kidnapped. But, surely the civil war had something to do with low legitimacy/capacity no? I read a history of the Incas at some point, although admittedly it’s been a while

So funny how all the rec-sys work is mostly just Amazon-Book, MovieLens-1M datasets and then your deployment on 300M users

We've been growing super fast at Lapis and have more inbound than we can reliably handle, and are hiring for two very important roles. These will be the first external hires we've made since our founding days, and we'd love to work with people who want to work in a super small team where they can own a lot of things at once without feeling overwhelmed. If you want to be a founder a couple years down the line and learn at a fast growing startup, or are from a somewhat non-tech background and have skills that can be easily applied to tech, this would be a great fit for you. - Sales: someone who has preferably sold software before and is comfortable demo'ing a technical product to a non technical audience. - Support: someone who understands the customer journey really well and can own customer feedback We operate fully on Slack, we don't do tickets, and we don't do Linear issues. What needs to be fixed will be fixed the same day and we operate with a very high degree of urgency since we're dealing with large enterprise clients (many household names people will be familiar with). You can be located anywhere for this role, as long as you can work full Pacific Time hours, from 10am to 10pm. In practice, this means working 8-10 hours every day. We care much more about making a great product that makes our customers happy than about performative work. Compensation: Sales: 220k OTE Support: 120k If this interests you, please DM me with a resume / website / something that shows the person you are and the work you do

Today we’re launching Caddy to public beta. We think AI should work just like a caddy: it carries your heavy shit, gives advice, and take work off your plate so that you can focus on what matters. It lives in your iMessage and helps you stay on top of work and life without opening another app. Give it a try.

A lot of folks heavily discounting OpenAI. They have a massive, virtually unmonetized user base that they can turn ads on for, literally hundreds of billions of dollars every year waiting to be spent on ChatGPT Ads Opus is great but the ceiling for dev spend, and even all of SaaS spend, is much lower than the ceiling for ad spend.

These takes are bets against nature’s illegible entropies and humanity’s collective right to take a central role in interpreting and dictating their progression. slop

The idea that AI will create new jobs is an express disbelief in technology. We are capable of making a machine more capable across the board than a human and we should be preparing for the implications. People like Allred who sell AI courses want to believe otherwise, but they are wrong

RL in Big Worlds is a workshop at @RL_Conference about ideas that enable agents to achieve goals in environments vastly more complex than themselves This requires giving agents the ability to learn continually and use approximate value functions, models and policies effectively
