New paper out: Check what Edwin and Mike did with our fantastic team at @IonQ_Inc: - QEC experiments with 9 different codes from 3 families. - Quantum LDPC codes with breakeven performance. - Logical error rate up to 9x better than a previous experiment on superconducting qubits. - All that without any ion transport or coolant ion thanks to a first-of-its kind implementation of the OMG architecture. Bet: developers who play with quantum logic first will absorb gate-level code faster later. Shivani Mayekar is building Quantum Canvas to test it: drag-and-drop primitives (shake, mark, boost, link) instead of raw gates.

@Cat_States The proof will be in the pudding, and what ships. That said, encourage all to be asking “what’s the logical error rate” when ppl talk about logical qubits. This varies & is a key metric to assess (for us at @ionq and everyone). Some of the early examples now are toy LER.

Travelling supporting @IonQ_Inc customers and partners in Germany and Switzerland this week. Many cities and visits. Great progress, great science, commerical work and dialog. Sidebar: North Americans are really missing out on a world class train system.

In fact, at least for now, all meaningful workflows are hybrid. Finding that skills of applying quantum algorithms in practice need people w sharp AI skills and experience as well as classical solvers and industry vertical skills, Think this will be a booming job market.

To be clear (because some haters seem to want to create conflict where there is none): I don’t think GPUs will be replaced by QPUs, ever. They will operate in hybrid workflows (point of the @IonQ_Inc paper below). The analogy of “purpose-built offload processors” fits.
