Post-hearing update following Nicolás Maduro’s latest court appearance:
No determinations were made today regarding legal representation, as discussions continue around counsel and funding for the defense. Gov says funds are a national security issue. Defense says their 6th amendment rights are being violated. The court did not set any new deadlines or trial dates during the hearing, either. More to come later via @LAmag

“Free President Maduro” across the street from 500 Pearl. Lots of police presence and it’s just as hectic as the January hearing. There seems to be a handful of elderly women holding up signs in support of Maduro.

Just was contacted by a big GOP donor wondering why the Senate would go on recess when the DHS isn’t funded & there’s no clear plan to pass the SAVE America Act. I hope our Republican Senate realizes: if you don’t pass the SAVE America Act, you will lose the majority.

Mayor Brandon Johnson is asked if he considered rescheduling this anti-ICE stunt considering an illegal had brutally killed Sheridan Gorman in Chicago just last week. He said no, her murder “is not going to deter us from our work, in fact, it’s going to challenge us all to double down on our efforts” to defend illegals. Unbelievable. Johnson found a way to make this even worse.

NEW: Murder charge stands against man who killed 11-year-old boy in Las Vegas road-rage shooting A Clark County judge ruled Tuesday that the murder charge against 23-year-old Tyler Matthew Johns will stand. Johns is accused of firing a single shot into another vehicle during a road-rage incident on the 215 Beltway in November 2025, killing 11-year-old Brandon Dominguez-Chavarria. Johns told police he did not know a child was in the back seat. Prosecutors are pursuing the case under an open murder charge that includes a child-abuse felony murder theory. The defense had asked the judge to reduce the charge, but the request was denied. Johns faces the possibility of life in prison. His trial is set for November 9, 2026.

As I have said to you before, it seems that violent crimes (rape and murder) tend to be the latest way in dealing with problems, solving conflicts and disagreements or perhaps something to do out of boredom.
