We’re excited to be participating in the AI for the Global South (AI4GS) event at MBZUAI (@mbzuai)! Cameleers Khalid Elmadani (@khalid_elmadani) and Mostafa Saeed (@Mostafa_Saeed__) are presenting their work later today during the poster session from 1:00–2:00 PM at posters 10 and 13. We’re looking forward for discussion, sharing our research, and connecting with others.

What if authorship verification models could be both state-of-the-art accurate and faithfully interpretable? For high-stakes tasks like forensic linguistics or plagiarism detection, "because the model said so" isn't a valid answer. We will present our paper on Residualized Similarity at #EMNLP2025. Residualized Similarity is a new method where a neural network learns to predict the residual similarity (i.e., the error) of a transparent, feature-based system, combining the best of both worlds. Across four datasets, RS matches SOTA performance. But unlike black-box models, our predictions are faithfully explainable—we can trace exactly how interpretable features and the neural residual contribute to the final prediction.
