@Nick__Bentley which reduces motivation to seek out or create a strategy guide. More games with low conflict/high solitaire-ness means less strategy guides. AFAIK Take it Easy doesn't have a strategy guide that I have seen, my guess is that it's more to do with its solitaire-ness than its age

@Nick__Bentley My guess: the increase in popularity of games with low conflict is related to this, or maybe has had a hand in causing this. Games with less focus on getting "on top" of your opponent and more focus on just doing the best with what you've got frees you to be happy with losing,

I feel like there were more strategy guides for tabletop games in the past. Is that true? If true, what does it mean that there are fewer now?

@chessandpoker Abstract games are sometimes a race to a particular board state (Tak, Chess, Santorini) “Be the last player in the game” can include games without HP (Werewolf, Strike) Most money wins has a VERY different feeling from VPs to me (Acquire, Irish Gauge, Sheriff of Nottingham)

Are there any board games out there that absolutely do NOT use points, in any way, to determine a winner? 🤔 I want to study them 🧐 but I'm having trouble coming up with any off the top of my head. No VPs anywhere in the game. Just some other victory condition. Do they exist?

@rccgames Fidel Dungeon Rescue is a puzzle roguelite that feels equal parts puzzle and rogue. For me it's a top 5 thinky puzzle game and tied with Spelunky 2 for favorite roguelike

One of the projects I’m working on is a roguelite. What’s your favorite in the genre?

@gengelstein Rolling a die is the most exciting to me, it is easier to understand the possible results and watching the die roll is suspenseful. Psychologically they are the same to me, but many others I know see a card flip as a predetermined fate rather than a random generation

For a big dramatic end-of-game moment, would you rather: (bonus question for comments - do these feel psychologically different to you? If so, why?)
