When Blake Edwards's 'The Party' (1968) was released, Time Magazine's review was snide: They wrote, “This Party, in short, is strictly for those who don’t get around much." The New York Times was offended by the movie- They wrote: “When, eventually, Peter Sellers is reduced to mugging the poor Indian’s pain at not being able to empty his bladder, the picture hits a low point from which it never recovers." When the British royal family watched 'The Party' (1968)together at Balmoral, however, Elizabeth II laughed so hard that tears rolled down her face. ("Mr. Strangelove - A Biography of Peter Sellers", Ed Sikov, 2002) P.S: On this day, 58 years ago, "The Party" (1968) was released in the USA.
