@PaulNatsuo @Metrolinx My guess is @metrolinx signed on for discounted service in exchange for limiting free data and forcing people to use the add-supported content portal if they want to watch something. Very limiting for people who want to work on the train (which is a big plus over a car).

@DavidHains @gordperks @BenSpurr The GTA has no lack of construction jobs, governments creating work in an industry with full employment causes a crowding out of private sector spending, which has a negative economic effect. (This crowding out is worth it if the infrastructure adds good value).

@infrahumano Probably 15 years ago? I am not sure if that is because it's when the Residential Schools Settlement became news or when I started emerging from my naive early 20s.

@infrahumano This was all stuff I learned as an adult. It was never taught in history class. Hopefully that's changed in the last 25 years.

@graemedmoffat “The sanctity of human life is a Judeo-Christian notion which might very easily not survive [the disappearance of] Judeo-Christian civilisation.” This is in no way unique to Judeo-Christian religion or society. But it's a common trope among western reactionaries.

@graemedmoffat This is some western traditionalist bullshit. Morality doesn't have to come from religion, Christianity has always had questionable morals and has historically been more a tool of oppression than a beacon of morality.

No shows for 2nd doses are becoming a problem says @DocMCohen People book several appts and then don't cancel. "We can't just put mRNA vaccine back in the fridge. If you no-show you are forcing us to scramble or throw unused vaccine away. Please cancel extra appointments."

@mattroberts I remember when we met 22 years ago you seemed really proud of your dad's company and where he had come from and what he had accomplished. I'm sorry for your loss.

I lost my dad on Saturday and I'm gutted. I loved my dad. A phenomenal husband and he also did a great job raising my sister & I. He also helped create the tech ecosystem in Canada. His is an interesting story that I thought I’d share. 🧵👇

This is what I've been working on for the last 14 months. combining fNIRS and EEG in a comfortable VR-compatible (but not required) form factor we're going to make it easier for researchers to get essential insights into their subjects minds. #neurotechnology

@graemedmoffat Why would you take a PhD if you cared about money? When hiring (in engineering) I would value a new PhD about the same as an undergrad with 2 years of experience, unless they have in demand skills that are specifically what I need.

@graemedmoffat @IP_policy True, but we do not expose the general population evenly. A minority of people get a lot more exposure than most. The math is more complicated than it seems but I can believe there is a subset of the population >20x as likely to be expose than the average.

@graemedmoffat @IP_policy Is it? 92% leads to 60% more infections than 95%, and since the risk is much greater in older people and care workers, it makes more sense to protect them fully. Delaying the 2nd does until everyone has a 1st would probably lead to quicker heard immunity but more deaths.

@graemedmoffat Yeah, but administration capacity always needs to exceed supply, by a margin determined by the consistency of supply (maybe double the rate). The provinces cannot play catchup to the feds.

@graemedmoffat Administration rate needs to exceed supply since supply is less consistent and Canada has less control over it. Also, Drug companies understand logistics, they aren't going to increase shipments until after a country shows it can administer what they are getting.

@graemedmoffat @peterjansen_ai @andpru Ontario refuses to be aggressive with anything regarding Covid. BC, SASK and NB aren't holding back doses. NS is planning to start holding back, but they also have like 4 new cases a day.
