And it turns out that busy professionals really appreciate having a 4K word artifact that gives necessary mental models over e.g. a 600 page spec for the $FOO service which you can reverse engineer to understand what, I don’t know, ACH dispute models are.

A surprising thing I’m learning about writing a public newsletter which covers, among other things, what I consider basic information about how financial infrastructure work is how frequently it gets mentioned in docs by people who build that for a living.

@jp_koning Unfortunately the only domestic systems with ISO 20022 are Fedwire, CHIPS, RTP, and FedNow. Even then, most banks only provide rich data when you're receiving payments, so it probably wouldn't help for cases where you're originating payments.

@samaarons When I look at the bank transfers and ACH payments I've made that month, I often can't figure out what they were for. So would I be able to get more information?

@jp_koning Unless you're an engineer the answer is probably "it's not". The one improvement for end-users might be extended remittance data. Each bank payment in your online portal could have the same data that a receipt has, instead of just a vague (barely human readable) description.
