@bavvmorda One of the best scores flat out. If I recall correctly, he didn't compose to picture. He wrote a bunch of cues and handed them to Coppola to cut in as needed.

The soundtrack by Wojciech Kilar that accompanies (makes) Coppola's Dracula is just incredible. One of the best horror soundtracks of all time, surely? Can't get away with it. Honestly, do you think he understands how much he smashed it out the park?

@M_Morse One of Cruises’s best performances too. His fear is what really sells Hoffman’s menace. It’s rare to see Hunt that helpless.

@bavvmorda Agreed. I’m 44 and still feel the urge to look away from some shots. Like the overhead of the guy getting dragged under.

I'd go so far as to say it never occured to me that the Jaws shark "looked shit" until people said it to me. Just something to consider as a filmmaker. This shark is still VERY real to me. It probably GAVE me that phobia. I sincerely believe it hasn't aged a day.

(Jaws is one of my favourite films. It's perfect.) But I wanna talk about this shark. Yea, it's rubber. People say it looks shit. But I'm terrified of it. I have that fear of submerged man-made things. I hate even touching a bath-plug. So this shark makes me wanna vomit.

At this point the only "inside Hollywood" movie I really need to see is if a great female director makes a film about Margot Kidder & Jennifer Salt renting the Malibu beach house that ended up being the salon/ground zero for pretty much all of 1970s cinema and beyond.

How "M*A*S*H" s11e04 looked like as originally broadcast vs. today on Hulu. Previously unseen portions of the neg are restored l and r & top and bottom are cropped. You can't even see the shoe that Hawkeye is trying to pick up (that BJ nailed to the floor) in the 16:9 version.

Shows like Friends, M*A*S*H and Seinfeld were shot on film and presented on TV in 4:3 aspect ratio. For streaming, unused portions of the film negative are used to create a 16:9 widescreen image—if the reframe is sloppy, the audience sees more than was intended. "Friends" s10e01

Dryden's scars were a 100% digital effect that we created at ILM. We match-animated Bettany's head movements, then applied painted pieces of artwork that had to match every bit of movement on Bettany's face using vector tracking and warping. "Solo" (2018).

A someone who got the hell out of their film program and went to a much better one, it makes me happy to say fuck Emerson.
