This is my latest filmmaking reel! I specialize in colorful and polished imagery with an emphasis on showcasing diverse voices. There's a key on the bottom left for whether I was the director, cinematographer, or both!

If you call Film LA, the very first option is to report a production you think should be shut down for not having a permit.
The third option is to try and get a permit. If you don't get your application in my 10am a week before the shoot, they will not process your application. Not 10:05, not 12pm. Must be in by 10am. When you speak to the person at Film LA, they truly sound like they don't even want you to shoot there.
I hope whoever our next mayor is shuts down Film LA and makes it free and easy to get a permit.
LA has the best crews, the best casts, the best weather. It shouldn't be cheaper and easier to fly to Oklahoma and shoot there than it is to shoot at home. It's time to bring filmmaking back to LA.

@valentinavee I feel like this is going to be an off year for new cameras / updates

@paddingtonpolo @KevinLarat You’ve got a really good point! I like the C80 a lot actually and have shot with it quite a bit. But for personal use, I’d need to invest in a completely new lens system and that’s hard to justify after I’ve sunk so much into E-mount glass.
English

@valentinavee @KevinLarat C80 is close if you’re fine with mini XLR. Also has SDI
English

@KevinLarat C400 is a great camera and I really enjoy the triple base ISO! From factor is quite cute too.
English

@valentinavee Fingers crossed, I’m really getting tempted by the C400, but I don’t want to change ecosystems

Jonathan Demme on the Filmmaking advice Roger Corman gave him before his directorial debut — "Caged Heat" (1974):
"The obligatory first-director's lunch before 'Caged Heat' (1974) was the most extraordinary hour, just amazing. Not because Roger picked up the tab —although it was a free lunch at Cyrano's —but for the way he just machine-gunned the rules of directing at me like:
1) Find legitimate, motivated excuses for moving the camera but always look for ways to move The eyeball, he said, was the organ most utilized in moviegoing. If you don't keep the eyeball entertained, no way you'll get the brain involved.
2) Use as many interesting angles as you can. Don't repeat composition in close-ups. Don't remind the eye it's already seen the same thing.
3) Make your villain as fascinating as your hero. A one-dimensional villain won't be as scary as a complicated, interesting one.
It was amazing. When I did 'Something Wild' (1986) years later, I felt I was making a 1980s Corman picture."

@BenRealVsWorld @JoyTheDrummer The best to do it! So inspired and impressed by you always.

Right before we started filming this i looked at @JoyTheDrummer and yelled LETS FUCKING GO. Then the lights came on, she started drumming, and the rest is history.
One of the illest moments in my career. No camera shake is crazy cuz my heart was pounding lol

Here’s a video I took while we were shooting. You can see on the upper right Tomas pouring water into a tube that runs between 2 panes of glass in front of the handheld camera Greig operates, giving a smeary, drippy look. Ryan stands in a cage of blinking IR lights which are invisible to the naked eye, but in the monitor it’s beautiful. We used this method for closeups. Medium-wides we did on the spaceship set with fewer lights & a lot of digital augmentation/replacement from ILM, and wides were fully digital from ILM, to match this look.

This is getting reposted to Tau Ceti and back, so: The astrophage collection scene (and the rest of PHM!) is a combined effort of practical in-camera effects and incredible VFX, both created by skilled human artists. Good reference imagery makes the CGI work even better!

@fruitflyCaz @armayamkyla This is from last year! They changed venues and lighting is completely different.
