Excited to share my first, first-author paper from back during my time as a postbac with @KhaliqLab! Here, we examine how two presynaptic receptors interact to shape DA axon physiology and excitability. 1/n👇 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Happy to share the first work from my PhD. 🔬 We show that GPCR-based norepinephrine and dopamine sensors can display crosstalk in acute brain slices and in vivo.⚡️ We hope this study will be helpful for those using these sensors and for interpreting results. 🐁

Exciting work from the lab on unique DA subpopulation! SN pars lateralis DAN firing differs from SNc in super interesting ways. We find robust auditory CTX input and test in threat behavior. Congrats to Lorenzo Sansalone (@newrochemist), @cellularscale @e_twedell, Sherry Zhang!

Check out the preprint for the rest of our findings – feedback is welcome! Lastly, a huge thank you to all the co-authors, and especially @KhaliqLab and @XOanAxon who have been and continue to be incredible mentors to learn from. 6/6

Along the way, we noticed big differences in the effects of gabazine and picrotoxin, two common GABAAR antagonists. Turns out, picrotoxin strongly inhibits nAChRs on DA axons! We characterized this off-target inhibition in the hopes that it will be useful to the community. 5/n

Hard to believe my time in grad school is finally done! I'm so thankful to everyone who helped me along the way. And I'm thrilled for the next step, a postdoc fellowship with @KhaliqLab at @NINDSnews! To the AIS and beyond!

There's no better way to wrap up my time with @KhaliqLab than to see this out in its final form!! The last two years have been an incredible experience and I'm sad to leave such an amazing environment. But for now, on to new adventures at @PiN_Harvard! cell.com/neuron/fulltex…

The final version is online! 🥳 Here we use axonal recordings to show that ACh controls the excitability of dopaminergic *axons* with synaptic-like nicotinic *EPSPs*!! I’d like to thank all my co-authors, this was a truly fun and interesting project! authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S08…

Incredibly proud to have contributed to this project!! Of course, huge thank you to @XOanAxon and @KhaliqLab for helping me learn these difficult and beautiful recordings when I first joined the lab. DAxons truly never cease to amaze…
Paul Kramer, Ph.D.@XOanAxon

Before you go, I want to acknowledge the whole team that made this possible. From the @KhaliqLab: our lab technician Sherry, and the SUPER talented post-bac @sambrillweil who contributed many axonal recordings for this paper and worked on the parameters for Fig. 7.

Well I guess our paper has spread faster than I expected for a Sunday! Here is a short tweetorial for our recent @KhaliqLab study just posted to BioRXiv. TLDR: We see synaptic-like ACh transmission onto dopaminergic axons in the striatum. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
