It's always been there. What we've always had is a charade of religious harmony. Most Muslims know, that hidden behind the veil of harmony is deep seated hatred for their religion. You see it in the rhetoric of even people who are supposed to know better - top pastors, take for instance what a retired Presbyterian Pastor wrote about Dr. Bawumia on the eve of the NPP Presidential primaries.

That’s actually a misunderstanding of the Qur’an and Islamic teachings. The Qur’an does not tell Muslims to go around calling all non-Muslims pigs or monkeys. Those verses refer to specific groups of people in a particular historical context who knowingly rebelled and committed serious wrongdoing — they are not descriptions of every Jew, Christian, or non-Muslim person. The Qur’an also speaks respectfully about Jews and Christians in many places and even calls them “People of the Book.” Muslims are allowed to eat their food, marry from among them, and are commanded to debate respectfully and justly. The Qur’an says: “And do not argue with the People of the Book except in a way that is best…” (29:46) As for prayers, Muslims do not spend five daily prayers cursing Jews and Christians. That is simply false. The daily prayers are centered around worshipping God, asking for guidance, mercy, forgiveness, and righteousness. Every religion has verses that can be taken out of context and weaponized. If someone judges Islam only by isolated verses without context, then the same standard would have to be applied to the Bible as well, which also contains harsh language and stories about enemies, punishment, and judgment. At the end of the day, Muslims are taught: “There is no compulsion in religion.” (2:256) And: “Allah does not forbid you from being kind and just to those who do not fight you because of religion.” (60:8) So the idea that Islam teaches Muslims to hate all non-Muslims is not an accurate representation of the faith.
