It seems like the elite player arguments for Freestyle chess boil down to: 1) Humans are too closely competitive with one another from the classical starting position. 2) We're bored with the classical starting position. 3) We don't want to spend so much time studying openings. Anything else?

Since Chanukah is coming to a close I would just like to have one more miracle. That would be Magnus Carlsen retiring from all forms of chess and to never be seen in the public eye ever again.

@turnabouttess Honestly Magnus could’ve killed two birds with one stone. Give himself a challenge and lightening the load by doing no prep. Problem is his ego probably couldn’t let him lose the crown.

@turnabouttess You know what would make women more motivated to play chess instead of women’s titles? No sexual harassment. But that seems impossible.

i think a lot of people like to conveniently ignore that when women's titles were first created in the 1950s, believing that women were inherently less intelligent than men and less suited towards things like chess was a completely mainstream and accepted opinion.
