> My goal with JRuby has always been to give Rubyists more tools and more opportunities. By combining JRuby with the power and ecosystem of the JVM, we’ve brought Ruby and Rails to places it never could have gone before. Hold my beer. :-)

JRuby returns to RubyConf for the 2026 Las Vegas edition! I will deliver a talk on Tuesday, run a Hack Space on Wednesday, and would love to hang out with you at JRubyKaraoke (Tuesday night) and the poolside JRuby Cabana (Thursday). Here's all the info: buff.ly/WV7FiqM

Mastodon's streaming server exists because MRI can't hold ten thousand idle sockets. Rewrote it in a Ruby that compiles: 300 connections, 16MB vs Node's 202MB. It's the first rung of a bigger ladder — Mastodon on Spinel, as a supported configuration. intertwingly.net/blog/2026/07/0…

@bradgessler I'm not sure I understand. Endless methods parse virtually identically as endfull methods. For the value of DSLs/macros (to both humans and LLMs) see rubys.github.io/roundhouse/bro… and click on article.rb in both Ruby and Spinel.

@samruby Check out endless Ruby methods: def self.table_name; "articles"; end Becomes def self.table_name = “articles” Makes the “DSLs don’t matter as much” argument even more compelling, though I still think macros are useful for LLMs.

Two make commands from a fresh git clone: a real Rails app transpiled to Spinel-subset Ruby, running on localhost:3000 with real-time Turbo broadcasts and SQLite persistence. Roundhouse iteration one is here. intertwingly.net/blog/2026/04/2…

Two Ruby compilers, started about the same time, by people unaware of each other's work. The interesting question isn't which is right — it's what changed. intertwingly.net/blog/2026/04/2…
