Grateful for @SamuelBrownback’s constant leadership on human rights in China, and for his new book “China’s War on Faith.” I had to the chance to interview him back in 2022 and still think about his understanding of “spiritual capital” and how standing for religious liberty abroad is more than moralism, it’s strategic. Here’s what he told me at the time: “I think when we in the Beltway in Washington tend to think about foreign policy, more often than not, we segment human rights into this silo and geopolitics into this silo, economic policy in one lane, defense relations in another, and then human rights is just somewhere off in the corner. But the strange thing is when we as Americans talk about ourselves, our identity, we lead with values and we lead with principles. So it seems almost as if there's this cognitive dissonance in the middle of our foreign policy.”

The First Amendment is not just about the freedom to have our religious beliefs. It gives every American the guaranteed right to live our religious beliefs.

It is alarming that these things could happen in America. The report may focus on anti-Christian bias but no religion is safe when a hostile government views peaceful religious adherents as the enemy. Religious freedom is for all Americans, regardless of their faith.

While the task force report focuses on anti-Christian government actions, it highlights a few cases from the private sector and includes my experience with @Chase debanking @TheNCRF. No American should be punished by the government or private business because of their faith.
