In Nigeria’s Edo state a centuries old tradition of healing tattoos continues to thrive despite skepticism from modern doctors. Practitioners in some communities use herbal infused incisions believed to treat ailments like an enlarged spleen with patients and families attesting to recoveries they say conventional medicine couldn’t deliver. While local people defend the practice as part of their cultural heritage health experts urge scientific study of the herbs used and caution that unregulated procedures carry risks. The persistence of these traditional healing rituals highlights the ongoing tension between ancestral beliefs and modern medical science in parts of West Africa. #Nigeria #Tradition #Tattoo #WestAfrica #Medical #OceanNewsUK #UK #Ocean #breaking #latest #London More On: oceannewsuk.com 📺Satellite - Asiasat7: Frequency 3880 H, Symbol Rate: 29720

@Rock_Cross17 @Reuters Absolutely. The Ancient Healing Tattoo of the Esan People, for instance, has saved uncountable lives. Regardless of the skepticism today, people find the approach reliable. You may watch my documentary on it here youtu.be/7V-azmOxApk?si…

@Reuters Common in Edo state, both rural and urban areas. These just goes to show how intelligent the ancestors were to have come up with this… and yes it does work.

I’m one of those kids. My dad never wanted it until this dark Thursday morning I will never forget. I was 7 years old and my neighbours woke us up with tears and screaming . Their only son who suffered from same thing as me had just passed on. My dad sent me to school that morning. I knew what had happened but still had questions. In the night that Thursday, my dad with tears in his eyes came to my bedside and explained everything and then told me that 3 days from now, we will travel to the village to go get this done. I agreed immediately. I didn’t have a normal childhood as I easily fainted when playing with my mates or fall sick randomly. My mates didn’t want me to join them anymore cus no one wanted to be responsible for making me faint. From when I had that mark till date, I’ve never been anaemic . I don’t fall sick easily too. I’ve only fainted once when my mum passed. If done properly with strict adherence, it is very effective. There are many quacks out there nowadays . There are only a few families left that truly practice the herbal remedy.

@BarnabasOkoduwa @Reuters There’s more to it than meets the eyes. Like I did say before— the method— an evasive surgery, is a form of vaccination against multiple ailments. And it works in most cases.

@OsasOkonyon Going by the rigorous research I did through the medium of a documentary —youtu.be/7V-azmOxApk?si…, it’s beyond doubts this traditional practice has a good number of pluses. We can only seek to modernize it rather than doubt its efficacy.

@DonCorleANN This is an evidence our forefathers were geniuses. Considering the intricate patterns and potency of the Ancient Healing Tattoos of the Esan People, one would agree that the successes often quoted are not flukes. Pls, watch my 2024 documentary on it youtu.be/7V-azmOxApk?si…

One thing the world has erred in, is not supporting and funding the research of Traditional African Medicine. Because I bet a lot of diseases could be cured if they listened. I know women who took that one herb from an old aunty who cured bad period pains and hormonal imbalances.

@LilithBlack25 I totally agree with you. The skepticism about the African traditional medicine is intentionally curated to create an impression. Whereas, in true practice, the African Methods have unquestionable potency. Most of our ancestors were geniuses.

A friend would have lost his brother if he didn’t get these tattoos. The doctors couldn’t help him, he didn’t know what death was, thankful that he didn’t have to While he may be skeptical, everytime he see those marks on his belly, he his thankful for the miracle that is traditional medicine. Our root is very important

@Reuters It is quite common in the south south, though gradually fading from existence due to awareness. That's why I joined my voice to raise this awareness and prevent further complications.
