Ugandan filmmaker @samuelsaviourk is such a big deal in film communities on the continent. He has served in important positions for several film platforms. This whole week, he has been in Kenya for the @kitalefilmweek 2026 which is ending this evening with an award gala. Well done Kizito for representing yourself and Uganda. We wish the best for the Ugandan films which are competing tonight. #MakingUgFilmsFamous

@MBU Hopefully the SGU will put up a Development Workshop this year to guide emerging storytellers on how to best prepare themselves for such opportunities should they miss jumping on this moving train due to not being equipped with the right knowledge for readiness.

Serving African Cinema at REFFA 2025 🇬🇭 From 30 October – 7 November 2025, I had the honor of serving in Ghana as a Jury Member for the Regal Film Festival and Awards (@reffaawards ) 2025, where I was privileged to watch, evaluate, and engage with a remarkable selection of films from across Africa and beyond. The quality, ambition, and diversity of the submissions reaffirmed that African cinema is entering a bold and confident new chapter. I later returned to Accra from 19 – 15 December 2025 for the festival activities and Award Gala Night, where I also had the privilege of moderating a powerful panel discussion “Turning African Tales into Cinematic Gold.” The conversation explored how Africa’s rich oral traditions, folklore, histories, and contemporary realities can be translated into compelling cinematic narratives that resonate locally and globally without sacrificing cultural depth or authenticity. The panel brought together filmmakers, producers, and distributors (@chrisodeh , @petersedufia & Joy Efe Odiete “@Bluepictureshq” ) to unpack practical approaches to story mining, adaptation, genre innovation, and audience engagement. It was an energizing exchange of ideas that reinforced the role of African storytellers as both cultural custodians and innovators in a rapidly evolving global film landscape. Beyond my official roles, REFFA 2025 was a week of sharing, learning, networking, and building bridges, laying important groundwork for future Pan-African collaborations that will continue to fuel African cinema through 2026 and beyond. I extend my sincere appreciation to the entire REFFA team for delivering an outstanding maiden edition of the festival, one that brought together some of Africa’s finest filmmakers, creatives, and stars, and truly celebrated African cinema in the heart of Accra, Ghana. REFFA has positioned itself as a vital platform for dialogue, excellence, and continental unity in film. Thank you for the trust, the hospitality, and the vision. The momentum continues and I look forward to contributing wherever African stories are being nurtured, elevated, and shared with the world. To more greatness 🙏

From 22–29 November 2025, I had the privilege of serving at the @MasharikiFest and the @MashaRket an incredible week dedicated to sharing knowledge, strengthening networks, and imagining a stronger Pan-African film ecosystem. During the festival, I facilitated a Masterclass on Digital Storytelling in the Age of AI & Archival Revival, exploring how African filmmakers can responsibly integrate emerging technologies into the creative process without compromising cultural identity, emotion, or narrative authenticity. I also had the honor of moderating two powerful panel discussions: Breaking The Glass Ceiling: The True Value of African Narratives in Streaming Platforms A deep look at valuation, distribution, and the economics of African storytelling challenging algorithms, market structures, and how platforms privilege certain narratives while undervaluing others. We also had an insight into what the future of @canalplus Group looks for African Cinema. Film Technology, Language, and Audience in the Age of AI A conversation on how AI is reshaping the craft from research, translation, and audience analytics to the ethical limits of creativity, memory, and emotional truth. In addition, I served as a Jury member at Mashariki, where I witnessed remarkable films from across Africa and beyond. Stories rooted in courage, history, humor, and identity reminding us why this continent’s narratives matter. Mashariki 2025 was not just a festival it was a laboratory of ideas, a nexus of creativity, and a launchpad for future collaboration. I return with renewed conviction that Pan-African partnerships will shape cinemas of tomorrow in Africa and across the diaspora. To every filmmaker, distributor, student, producer, and curator I met, thank you for the conversations, the inspiration, and the trust. 2026 and beyond will demand more innovation, more unity, and more unapologetic African storytelling. I look forward to contributing wherever I can.

Tomorrow, Friday 25th November 2025, I am to moderate the panel “Breaking The Glass Ceiling: The True Value of African Narratives in Streaming Platforms” at @MasharikiFest during the @MashaRket The African film economy is expanding, but digital platforms continue to underprice our stories, restrict their visibility, and limit their reach. This panel will unpack how revenue structures, territorial licensing, metadata curation, and historical positioning of African cinema shape our earning potential. Together with executives, film experts and educators from all across Africa and beyond. We will explore practical strategies for: • Negotiating fair valuation • Building multi-territory distribution pipelines • Leveraging festival momentum • Retaining intellectual property • Scaling audience ownership across Africa and the diaspora Africa is not a niche market, it is the world’s youngest and fastest-growing audience base. If you will be in Kigali, join us. The conversation is overdue.

I am honoured to facilitate the masterclass “Digital Storytelling in the Age of AI & Archival Revival” at @MasharikiFest during the @MashaRket Kigali International Content Market in Kigali tomorrow Thursday 27th November 2025 from 2:00 PM at @norrskenEA House Kigali Artificial intelligence has become a powerful creative assistant, yet it is widely misunderstood in African filmmaking. This session will decode how emerging and established filmmakers can responsibly integrate AI into: • scriptwriting and research • visual development and concept art • post-production and sound cleanup • archival restoration and cultural memory • audience reach and distribution We will also explore ethical considerations around Indigenous narratives, digital colonialism, and the preservation of historical truth. My goal is to empower African creators to use digital tools not as replacements for their voice, but as extensions of their vision. If you are attending, I look forward to meeting you in person.
