Big Diplomatic Move: A high ranking Pakistani official engaged in Iran-US talks since weeks confirmed that Islamabad put its maximum diplomatic efforts to host Iran-US talks in third week of April again. For this, there could be a possibility of visit of US President Trump, Saudi Crown Prince MBS, Turkish President And Egyptian Prime Minister during these talks. Iranian President will likely visit Pakistan as well. PM Sharif meanwhile plans to visit Saudi Arabia tomorrow and a high powered delegation of Pakistan will be visiting China as well. So big breakthrough is expected in US-Iran talks in coming four days. #USIranTalks

Bloomberg, out of deliberate malice or vacuous stupidity, has a febrile stable of India-hating columnists: Andy Mukherjee, Maneka Doshi & Mihir Sharma (who at least tries to temper his bias with a sprinkling of rational economic theory). The others are rabid. @business @livemint
Samir Arora@Iamsamirarora

Anyone knows anything about Bloomberg having some problem in India with the system. Every day, these days, it religiously carries a negative story on India whether it makes sense or not, whether it is effectively a mish mash of previous stories or not. Most days it looks that a negative story on India is a non negotiable target for the Indian reporters.

BREAKING: Trump: So, there you have it, the meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not. Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz. At some point, we will reach an “ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT” basis, but Iran has not allowed that to happen by merely saying, “There may be a mine out there somewhere,” that nobody knows about but them. I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas. We will also begin destroying the mines the Iranians laid in the Straits. Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL! Iran knows, better than anyone, how to END this situation which has already devastated their Country. The Blockade will begin shortly. Other Countries will be involved with this Blockade. Iran will not be allowed to profit off this Illegal Act of EXTORTION. They want money and, more importantly, they want Nuclear. Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully “LOCKED AND LOADED,” and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran!

Despite no positive outcome from the talks, for #Pakistan to have managed to bring together high-level officials from the US and #Iran for the first time since the 1979 Iranian revolution is a massive diplomatic coup for Islamabad. I'm certain it will be asked again in the near future.
Nick Sortor@nicksortor

🚨 BREAKING: JD Vance says the US delegation will return to America WITHOUT a deal with Iran, but that this outcome is MUCH worse for Iran than the US “We've been at it for 21 HOURS. We've had substantive discussions...but the bad news is, we have NOT reached an agreement.” “That's bad news for Iran MUCH more than it is bad news for the USA.”

Pakistan did what it does best. It turned a diplomatic moment into a wedding set. Islamabad was dressed up like a bride, the green belt repainted, and the roads polished to a shine. Television anchors emerged from salons with party hair and designer outfits, speaking in that rehearsed excitement reserved for prime-time drama. And they named it the ‘Islamabad Talks’, not because Pakistan shaped the agenda, but because Pakistan staged the backdrop. The problem with playing host is that eventually someone asks whether you are also a player. Pakistan is not. So, when the lights dim, the problem remains unchanged. Mediation demands weight, not choreography. Pakistan is trying to sell Washington the idea that it can handle Iran because it is the neighbour, the familiar, the one with historical access. Tehran, however, is not in the mood to be handled. It has emerged from this round of conflict feeling emboldened, having imposed costs, survived pressure, and forced the other side into recalibration. That is not the mindset of a party rushing towards compromise. Washington, meanwhile, is not negotiating so much as testing the temperature, treating ceasefire language as tactical breathing space rather than a binding settlement, and leaning on Pakistan’s mediation only because it is convenient, not because it is credible. Islamabad’s assurances carry little more weight than they do in its own neighbourhood, shaped by a long reputation for thriving on conflicts it later claims to manage. Donald Trump’s instinctive habit of shifting goalposts the moment the other side shows restraint only hardens Tehran’s posture further. So, Islamabad may host more meetings, more cameras, and more carefully curated symbolism. Yet the ceasefire will remain fragile because neither side is actually anchored to Pakistani assurances. And once that becomes obvious at the table, the theatre will give way to the familiar rhythm of retaliation, until Iran and the United States decide, on their own calculus, that the cost of continuing has finally outweighed the satisfaction of striking back.

Interesting: I see a number of netizens are ‘happy’ that US-Iran talks have not resulted in a breakthrough. I don’t know what’s to be happy about: Is it vicarious pleasure because talks were being held in Islamabad? Isn’t in our national interest to have an early end to the conflict? Talks can be held in Timbuktu or anywhere, surely ending the war matters than who is hosting the dialogue, no? THINK!🙏

Talks failed but history will remember the lengths Pakistan went to, to get it settled peacefully. We have punched miles above our weight & gave the world a glimmer of hope against all odds. We were the only avenue that gave hope to millions & millions of mothers & children who dreaded destruction. Proud of our diplomats. We know it’s a good news for a specific faction of anarchists in Pakistan but then again, until they get hold of affairs, let’s cherish what we did in the last two weeks for peace. Congratulations, Pakistan. And good luck to the world !!
