Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin was the first person to earn a PhD in astronomy from Radcliffe College (now Harvard) and later became Chair of the Harvard Astronomy Dept. Her 1925 thesis proposed that stars were made from hydrogen and helium, contrary to theory at the time. #WomenInSTEM
