SAPA Condemns the Shelling of Al Deain Hospital and Mobilizes Emergency Medical Response The Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) strongly condemns the shelling of Al Deain Hospital in East Darfur State, Sudan, on March 20, 2026, which resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. In response to this incident, SAPA has begun coordinating an urgent medical intervention through its teams operating across the Darfur region, aiming to support local healthcare services and provide critical care to those affected. SAPA expresses its deepest solidarity with the victims and their families and reiterates its unequivocal rejection of any attacks on healthcare facilities. SAPA underscores the fundamental obligation to protect medical institutions and ensure the safety of civilians throughout Sudan. International humanitarian law clearly mandates the protection of medical facilities and personnel, both stationary and mobile, at all times, particularly in situations of armed conflict, and strictly prohibits targeting them under any circumstances. SAPA calls on all parties to uphold these principles and to safeguard civilians, healthcare services, and civilian infrastructure from the devastating impacts of war.
