Ui, 51.30 for Johanna Martin (born 2006). PB in her season opener. We may have a sub 51 woman soon.

Lost behind Mawdesley's great new PB was Elisabeth Paulina's 52.37, a PB by over 1 sec. NED building even more depth in the 400m 'reserves'. In other NED news, Eveline Saalberg opened her outdoor campaign with a PB over 800m, 2:02.28 & Jonas Phijffers won the m400 with 44.95

@iownabook You need to rewatch the race & not look at the splits, which are wrong. BRA leg 1 did not run 44.6 & they handed over in 5th place. By the time we get to the break, BOT & AUS are nearly 10m ahead of the next best team. Ergo that 2m made no difference to the outcome.

@saprior Look at the splits. AUS 44.5, BRA 44.6. Let AUS run the extra meters and he runs a 44.7, 44.8. Are you saying there is no chance they would've been behind BRA? And them running behind would have impacted the race, in what way nobody knows. Claiming that it had no impact is wrong

Why are we suddenly seeing tweets re World Relays lane fuck up? We know it was a mess. The Q is "did it affect the results?" The A "only for the last ht of m4x4" All other hts - mixed & female - were not impacted because either a) the lane 3 team DNQ for the final, or (1/3)

@iownabook It was around a 2m advantage. Exchanges on leg 1 are in lanes. Its the break that could have been the issue. I think you want it to be a bigger issue & have a bigger impact than it was. The reality was it had no impact on Q. That doesnt mean it wasn't bad or inept.

@saprior You are assuming again. The lead gives you a big advantage, because you can run free and exchange free. If they had been behind at any point, things might have happened at exchanges, things that cost time.

@iownabook They didn't need to win. They just needed top 2. The difference between them & 3rd was way, way bigger than the advantage from the lane 3 mishap. I am as annoyed & bewildered as anyone re the fuck up. But on reflection final results were not impacted. We have to be pragmatic.

@saprior This is the wrong way of thinking. You assume other results were not impacted but you do not know. AUS had lane 3 and won, but would they have won otherwise? They led after the first runner but not by much, would have won if they hadn't been in the lead right away? Maybe...

But TBH the seedings at the Worlds never made sense when you compare to past World Relay Results. Only other thought is, if they can fuck up basic lane positions, what else can't we trust. We know the relay splits were all messed up (they still have a KEN woman with 47.79 leg)

b) they were so far ahead anyway e.g. CAN Only the last m4x4 ht was questionable where QAT (lane 3) beat ESP. However, ESP Q the next day anyway. It does raise the issue of ESP potentially missing out on some $. Also in theory they use finishing positions here for seedings (2/3)

Looks like Adeleke is going to have a battle on her hands just to be Ireland's no1. this summer. Mawdsley looks like she can go 49.6 - 49.7 this year. youtube.com/watch?v=9y4I6z…

Emphasising the importance the Loughborough International meet has to the under 20 set up is the fact that six athletes achieved the tough world u20 standards for the first time yesterday.. the age group also provided seven match event winners (and one U18 winner!)

Oh good grief. My Uber driver is picking peanuts from a bag AND has a video on another phone whilst driving. And now of course he has gone the wrong way. If I never tweet again you know I've been deaded in a car accident.
