@Mehrandhn@internetarchive@iiif_io The volunteers on this project are prioritizing issues for the spring sprint right now, @Mehrandhn We'd love your input (and work!) either in the issues at github.com/internetarchiv… (look for the spring 2024 spring) or in our meeting on Thursday.
Despite the good news about making IIIF official at the @internetarchive where can we find the latest news about the progress in presenting IA books in @iiif_io compliant manner?
There are a lot of issues right now that make it impossible to use the iiif.archivelab domain.
I'm very curious to hear of anyone working on use machine methods (NLP, LLM, etc) for cataloging LAM/GLAM resources, particularly recent work from the past year or work that hasn't been published in the scholarly literature. Any suggestions? Thanks!
@miriamkp Also, really liked the book Burn Out for the science of women's stress and the self help. Even just the first 1-3 chapters is enough to help.
@miriamkp My two tactics for getting through the day-to-day:
1) What is causing the most stress right now? (then do it)
2) What do I need to do for *myself* today? (then do it)
One of my Australian government customers reports that the Commonwealth Bank of Australia has blocked international card payments by cards issued outside of AU temporarily (no ETA) due to BIN attacks. That's pretty fragile. And crazy.
@mjwhansen "adhesive bandage", just in case you were dying to know. Like "tissue" for kleenex.
I just ordered Deploy Empathy -- and had a laugh at the rubber duck. We spot them in the wild:
OUT OF OFFICE. The team at @fleetspace have been given a paid week off starting Oct 4. "Fleet Mental Health Week" will allow staff to ensure their mental health is prioritised, encouraging them to get outside, relax and recharge their batteries.

@quinnanya@hcayless Consulting seems to make a lot more sense to me -- you build your skills in tech and business, but it's really hard not to know where you next or 3 months out paycheck is coming from.
And if you get good, you either start turning projects away or become a manager. (we did #1)
@quinnanya@hcayless Why did we quit industry to work for (literally) half the $ in DH? Freedom, flexibility & fun. Plus gave us time to build @_FromThePage_ as a SaaS, which maybe-one day will make up for the lost $?
Plenty of us are building "worthy but unspectacular companies", and making the world a better place one line of code or marketing newsletter at a time, with no investment other than our time and our customer's belief in us.
"And second, excluding the middle...reflects a harmful tendency to consider anything short of a world-changing idea barely worth noticing. This creates a perverse incentive to... overlook start-up ideas that might result in worthy but unspectacular companies." via @nytimestech
